I Honda's Fred Merkel wrapped up his second stra ig h t Su perbike tit le with an easy start-tofinish ride at Brainerd. Merk el pulled out all the SlOpS to break away fro m th e field and quickly build up a cushion which stood a t 20 seco n ds a quarter o f th e way into th e 20-lap fin al. Starfire Raci ng 's Todd Brubaker edged away from a race long ba ttl e with Kevi n Mo nahan and h is Super T eam /Spri ng Cit y Cycl e Yamaha FZ750 o n th e fin al la p for seco nd a t the fini sh by five bikelengths.
