Part of hi s ca rry-over p roblem wa s a tra sh ed fro nt en d on th e 250CR th at wa s o n ly repl aced a shan time before th e races. In mo to one th e hol esh ot wa s performed by Ton y Richards (Kaw ), but h is lead wa s short liv ed as fir st Ma sh b i r a nd th en George H opper (H on) got by. Wh en th e m ot o ende d Ma shbir ha d th e vict ory, bu t it was cos tly for he had 10 give a way a passing secre t a nd after th is mot o man y rid ers were u sin g the same tacti c a t th e 1800 turn pr ior to the straightaway. In the seco nd m or o Gard ne r had an easier tim e o f it a nd was never pressu red for the win . The battle fo r seco nd wa s a revived bailie betw een Well s a nd Mash bir, but thi s time th e" Mashbi r pass" worked to give Mashbir seco nd i n the m o to and second for th e eveni ng.
