After fierce battles in th e 125cc a n d 250cc Experts, Cooper topped all four motos with H oen sh ell secon d eac h time . o ut. H oensh ell went o n to top the Open Experts over T ea m G reen 's Doug Fell ers. In the firs t 125cc m ot o , H oen sh ell grabbed the holesh o t ove r Cooper, Team Green's Mi ke Bos ton and DM C Kawasaki pi lot Den n is Daft . Cooper applied pressure to H oensh el l, but th e Suzuki p ilot countered every thrust unt il m id -mot e . Cooper the n took a nd h eld the lead until th e checkered . By the halfway mark , H oenshell had wh ittl ed Cooper's lead dow n 10 less than two seco n ds, bu t Cooper h eld h is ad vantage for the win ove r H oen sh ell . Coo per cleared th e first three of a set of five j umps a nd sailed past 'Fellers, then app lied p ressure 10 Kirk . T he nex t la p Cooper used the same move on Kirk for the lead. T he Yamaha rider was sa ndwiched between Coope r an d Fell ers for th e next lap , th en Feller s made hi s move for second ove r th e sa me jumps. The pass was so close th at Kirk's clutch lever sna pped, so' h e couldn 't ret al iate. Meanwhile, Hoenshell passed Abl es a nd reeled in Kirk . Before Fell ers co u ld esca pe, H oensh ell dropped Kirk 10 fourth a nd set a fter th e Kawasaki pil ot . T he two d ueled bri efly, the n Hoen shell dropped Fell ers to thi rd; by th en Cooper was long-gone. Cooper wo n a hea d o f H oen sh ell, Fellers, Kirk a nd Ab les. In th e seco nd mo to New ma n a nd Cooper reac hed th e first tu rn a t th e sa me time. Newman railed th e in sid e line, and Cooper swept ou tside. In the nex t tu rn Newm a n took the lead , b ~ t the lead was fleet ing as Coope r shp ped past th ree turns later. H oe n she ll took third from Daft, then zapped Newman a la p la ter.
