point is . that proper education and
training allows any " defect" in any
machinery to be overcome through
proper use.
There is a great deal of joy in this
eq u ip ment to people who use it properly. It brings families together,
allows expression of one's competitive spirit. and creates a great deal of
cornrader y. To remove these vehicles
from public u se would be only to
penalize large numbers of people
because of th e ignorant few .
Obviousl y the solution to this problem is public education and I would
seriously urge that your office abandon this approach of banning these
vehicles and, instead, work with the
manufacturers and pu blic safety
. agencies, race groups. m o to rcycl e
clubs, etc.• to estab lish programs
which will educate the p ub lic as to
the da ngers of these vehicles if n o t
proper ly driven and teach th em h ow
to do so.
