Roskell ey had a poor start a n d spent half of the moto worki ng his way to the fro nt, but he event ually p u t h is Kawasaki Cycle Cac he KX into th e lead where he stayed until th e end. Mot o two was Roskelley's as h e Jed from start to end. Battin wo rked up to seco nd a fte r a bad sta rt bu t hi s firs t m oto fou rth o n ly garnered him a fifth overall . T he Motorcycle Shop sponsored Donny Russell to ok his KTM to seco nd overa ll with co ns istent rides in both m o tos. In th e Pro class, Suzu ki Motorcycle a nd Marine's Joe Good led everyo ne a ro u nd th e sa n dy circu it while Roskell y wa s stuc k behind a first turn pil e up. By th e halfway mark, though, Roskelley had di spatched everyone including Good to ta ke co m ma nd of th e lead and th e event ua l wi n . Good aga in got th e hol eshot in moto two , but this time Roskell ey had better lu ck a n d found himself in . seco nd. It o n ly took two laps for Roskell ey to p a ss G ood an d cruise in for th e moto a n d ove ra ll victo ry. Roskell ey led th e 125cc Experts in moto o ne but suspens io n problems slo wed him a llowing Ralph Blan chard o n a n An ch orage Cycle Sal es' Ya maha to tak e ove r fir st p lace. Blanchard led m ost o f th e m oto until 14yea r-o ld Ande rso n pulled up beside hi m on th e last lap. An derso n's Kawasa ki seemed to have th e horsepower as he out dragged Blanch ard acro ss the sixth gear sa ndh ill to ta ke th e m oto win. Bla nch a rd was left with seco n d with Roskell ey co ming in fo u rt h. The seco nd m o to sa w Ande rso n ro cket into the lead with both Roskell ey a nd Blanch ard stuck in midpack. Roskell ey picked o ff riders o ne by o ne until h e fo u nd h im self behind Ander son. Roskell ey foll ow ed for the last h alf o f th e m o to until th e last lap when h e stu ffed th e inexpe ri en ced Anderson in the seco nd 10 last corn er. Roskelley and Anderson then fin ished one- two . Blanch ard had cras hed on lap six a n d wa s wa y in th e back . An derson took th e ove ra ll due to his 1-2 while Roskell ey had second with a 4-1. T he o n ly ot her rid er' to compete in three cl asses was Dave Cook . Co ok took h is Kawasaki to th e SOc Expert wi n a nd seco nds in both th e 125cc a nd 250cc Inter medi a te classes.
