Today, with another borrowed machine, he entered his first 12Scc P ro race this season a nd won . When th e pack drifted right heading for the left- hand first turn in moto one, a massive cra sh resulted as th e ou tside of the charge slid to th e cen ter on th e we t, slippery sweeper. Stacey Cook (Kaw) sensed so met hing as he peered ba ck to see riders a nd mounts flying everywhe re. Over a third of the field was wiped o u t incl udi ng Ti m Bu ch li (Ya m ), Er ic Sterner (Yam ), Sha wn Smith (Kaw ) a nd Ma r k Fles ia (Kaw) . Cook immedi a tel y built a huge lead o ver survivors T erry David (Ka w) an d Mit ch ell. Mitchell overtook David by la p th ree, bu t had n o cha nce to ca tch Cook. By lap th ree, Mit ch ell had th e lead wi th Buchli, a fte r a so -so start, up to six th fo llowed by David. Mitchell stre tched th e lead eac h lap, as Buchli worked hi s way up to seco nd . Mitch ell won easily ove r Buchl i, while Da vid fi n ished sixth to earn third overa ll behind Bu ch li . Harriger pulled th e holeshot in all four m otos a n d left th e pa ck to w in. Terry Bosta rd finished seco nd in th e 125 and 2SOcc P ro classes a nd Jed Green took third . Gary Smi th won th e Open cla ss with a 2-1 over R on L aPointe and Kurt J orgen son took th ird pl ace. Sco tt McEl roy a n d J.J. T ay lor put on a good sh ow in th e I2Scc Intermediate class.
