Chad McCracken read the sta rter right
again to get th e hol esh ot in th e ma in.
He wa s Iollowed into turn o ne by
Powers, Ed Meyer a nd Polson. Poi so n got a good drive orr th e outside of
turn two to pass Meyer and Powers
down the back straightaway on lap
one, and did the same to McCracken
on lap two to gain the.lead..
After tryin g the outside unsuccessfully Cor three laps, Powers we~t
inside McCracken on la p fou r to gam
second. There was a battle for third
between Ha le and McCracken that
raged on through the rest of the
event. with McCracken getting the
nod in a side-by-side drag race to th e
finish line. After gaining steadily,
Stovall Cycles' Powers got a good
drive out of turn four on the last lap,
but came up a bikelength short as
Polson took the win.
Billy Orr took an easy win in the
O pe n P ro short track heat race with a
smooth ride out front on his Honda
500, as Freddie Debrick held on for
second place ahead of John G ladwill
and Andy West.
O rr got into turn one first in th e
main event, Iollowed by G ladwill ,
Po wers and Debrick, who blasted his
Honda 500 into second on th e back
stretch. On la p two, Debrick went
inside Orr in turn four to take over
the lead. Orr sta yed close and lap
th ree ended with both riders even on
the fron t stretch. Debrick held it on
longer and Orr ran around the outside - Debrick couldn't shake Orr
orr hi s rear wheel though, and on la p
seven , Orr squared orr and came out
of four on the inside and moved
alongside Debrick again . He co uldn 't
get by Debrick, though , and Debrick
cut 10 the in side in turn two. Orr got
the drive he wanted and passed
Debrick on th e back stra ig h t on th e
fina l lap. Both rid ers drove hard out
of the final turn a nd a imed Cor th e
flag. Orr took the win by half a wheel
ahead of Debrick , with West Iinishing in third a hea d of Power s.
