O f th e weekend's five main events, th e Batt le of the Tw ins provided fan s with th e closest racing. Church put his H a rley out front a t the start , but wa s followed closely by Adamo's Cagiva a nd David Roper's Duca ri, Lap two saw Chu rch and Adamo touch going into tu rn two, but it was Adamo ex iting in th e lea d. It was Ch urch 's turn to see if h e co u ld break loose from Ada moan d it appeared he co u ld by th e time they go t to tu rn six. Church co nti n ued to lead on lap five with Adamo still close, but th e picture cha n ged in th e race for third. Williams, Roper a nd Cooper were deep ly involved in the figh t for the rig h ts to third p la ce, but R oper di scha rg ed himself Irorn th e baule by cra sh ing in tu rn seve n o n lap five. Will ia ms tem pora ril y slipped by Ada mo in turn five, but o ne turn la ter and Adamo wa s back in seco nd. Will ia ms was ha ving th e worst luck in th e battle with th e traffi c as th e other two seem ed to slide by a t th e right times. The three up front sep ara ted slightlyon lap 12 as traffic thickened a n d on la p 13, Adamo's Duca ti slowed to a crawl whil e exiting from turn seven. After a coas t down th e h ill a nd into the p its, Adamo 's race wa s over. It didn ' t ho wever, da mpen th e p roceedings betw een Church a nd Williams as th e D ucari seemi ngly' was gell ing stronger. The rac e was set for a last -lap showdown . Chuch had a sligh t lead as the white flag was waved but the lead was short -lived as Church m ade a mi stak e in turn two . With a lapped rider a t th e apex of th e right-h ander, Ch u rc h tri ed to d ive underneath. T here was n' t a ny room a nd th e H arley wa s forced to th e insi de cu rb an d o nto th e d irt fringe. Church hun g on but th e mi stake a llowed Williams a not her shot. Will iams saved h is a ttempt for tu rn II , but h e co u ldn 't ge t by as th e H ar ley won th e drag race 'to the flag . Th ird place in th e Grand P rix class went to a distant Cooper, The H eavyweight Mod ified class win went to Da vid McG lure on hi s H arley- Davidson/Express Ra ci n g < Harley. McC lure was followed to th e flag by Bud R iddl e and R ick Weber o n th eir Yamaha a nd BMW respectfull y.
