Berry picked up third. At th e start of the first Open Pro mota , Dave Molder wa s ' still dizzy aft er his crash in the 250cc Pro class. Molder didn't sho w any signs of slowing up, however, and took the ea rly lead ahead of Curt Hyde. Perry Bicek and Lynn Hyde. Molder rod e a stro ng race from start to finish, b u t without any of hi s usual flash off the jumps, Behind, Bicek put in a very stro ng ride in second, the only other rider to keep Molder in sigh t. Well behind, Lynn Hyde crashed himself into th e back o f th e pack, whi le Curt H yde, his brother wh o a lso went down, cha rged from th e hack to ca tch U lr ich in th e final two laps and gr ab third. Round two saw Molder back to his o ld form , as h e took th e lead from th e sta rt a nd mot or ed a wav. Meeker, Huffman manhandle muddy Albany5X By Clay Light ALBANY, OR, APR. 21 " Ba nza i Weekend" came to a close at Albany Supercross after a long grueling three-race-inthree-days series. Jere Meek er wa s looking for a win a ll week end a nd finally got his turn by topping both co m bined Pro motos on his Yamaha YZ490. Meeker manhandled the slo pp y conditions, looking much better outdoors than in the two previous nights of indoor motocross. Ryan Huffman rode amazing as usual, taking two classes on his Kawasaki and Yamaha, winning the 60cc and 80cc B classes, respectively. Mini racing started off a rain y day of supercross which saw Kawasaki mounted Huffman leadin g the 60cc B/Ccombined first mota on his Huffman-Wright Logging/Yamaha-Honda of Roseburg KX and had only Danny Ulven (Kaw) to pace him. Ulven dropped o ff th e pac e, leaving Huffman wa y o u t front 10 th e checkered fla g, beat ing Ulve n a nd C class rid ers T ravis Berry (Eastside Kaw), C huckie Standeford (Ha n) a nd Ryan Leac h (Ho n), ;'\[ot o two had Huffman haul into th e lead. bu t h e cras hed in th e slo p wh ich let Ulven have hi s turn a t th e gl ory. Then Huffman rode lik e a madman , ca ugh t a nd di splaced th e local spe edster 10 o nce again tak e th e lead to th e flag for th e overa ll with hi s I-I score. Berry aga in co n tro lled th e C portion with a I-I ride 10 bear Standeford (2-2) a nd Lea ch (3-3). Sixteen rid ers gat ed for the second largest class of the day , which was the 80cc B/C class. B class riders Huffman (Yamaha Support) and Travis Markell (Ya m) jumped into the lead over Criders Chad Berry (Ka w), Troy Hustin and Troy Fuller, both on Hondas. Joe R ush ing (Han) made it a Honda sweep of the C class, while Huffman and Markell fin ished well ahead to end the first muddy mota. The second mota wasn't as easy for Huffman , who 'bega n 10 feel the fatigue from campaigning two classes in the deep quagmi re. Markell rode a marvelous ra ce the entire mota with Hustin again taking control of the C portion. followed by Rushing, Berry, John Feel ey (Kaw) and Scotty Nored (Han) . Huffm an held on to win by a slim margin for th e o vera ll with a I-I 10 beat Markell (2-2) while Hustin went 1-1 in the C class over Berry (2-2). Ru shing (3-3), Feeley (4-4) and Dann y Ulven (5-6). Open Pro rid er Todd Morris (En um cla w Kawasaki Kaw ) made th e long trip down from th e T acoma ar ea and wa sn 't a bo u t to miss out on the $ 1800 up for grabs. Morris carved through traffic 10 sett le behind teamm ate Knobl augh and inh erit second wheri Knoblaugh's bike broke la te in the mota. Morris held off advances from Woodley, who took third. Mot o two sa w Meek er again shoot out of th e gate, but local speeds ter Kenny Ol son (Yam 250 ) was determin ed 10 win th e moro and took over after jamm ing h is wa y out o f turn o ne. Meeker and hi s 490 Yamaha wer e 100 much in the European section an d di splaced Ol son for th e lead , foll owed by Woodley, Morris and Gunder son ( Ya m 125 ). Woodley ch ased Olson, and on the last lap ca ugh t the Yamaha rid er to nab second behind Meeker 10 nab top 250cc Pro cas h . Olson , Gunderson and Beyer rounded out th e top five at th e com pletion of th e muddy IO-Iap mot o , Manning tops 250cc Pros at Corona By Terry Whytal CORONA, CA, APR. 21 Yamaha rider Scott Manning overcame tough challenges from Scott Co naway and Suzuki rider Laurie Fooks and Tony Spear en route 10 sweeping both 250cc Pro motos at this week's SMX event. .
