Da le Fra nk li n, fresh fr o m a n eighth-place in Form u la 2 at Daytona, showed the way around PIR in winn ing bo th Formula 2 and Form u la I on a TZ 250 , and was never serious ly ch a lle n ged in eit her race. Superbike was a Zlock racing affair, wtih Zlock-sponsored Keith Pin ksta ff and Dale Zloc k h im self fin ished 1-2; but Californian J eff Tu tobene made it interesting. Only a last lap, la st corner mistake by Tu tobene kept h im from second p lace . The bobbl e wa s largely ind u ced by the experienced Dale Zlock, who used a subtle ch ange of line to stave off the pass . The largest class of th e day was 600cc Cafe, with 30 riders on the starting grid. Lee Cochran , on a Yamaha' engined thumper, pr evai led over the techno-marvels of Mike Johnson (500 Interceptor) and Gene Bro wn (RZ 500). Johnson a nd Bro wn scored well in other cla sses, with J ohnson winning over a Ninj a parad e in 600cc Production. Bro wn , rode a class up o n his gray-market RZ 500 Yama ha 10 handle th e Interceptors in 750cc Production.
