The CMC's new 1.85 m ile-lo ng race trac k is loca ted in the Q ua il Va llev ar ea o f th e park. Features include a bac kward-fa lling gate, public address system, and overn igh t cam p ing. The opening event bro ug h t ou t o ver 200 riders. Surratt wasted no time gelling hi s Ho nda in fro nt of Oswell in the firs t mo to a nd q uic k ly bui lt up a co m fortabl e lead. Al though both riders broke away from th e res t o f the pa ck earl y, Oswell never th reatened Surratt's lead. Yamaha -mou nted Wyn ne blast ed up from a ninth -pl a ce stan 10 gra b a dista nt third o n la p eig h t of th e 12-lap race, holding o ff a la te ch ar ge by Don Coenling (Ka w).
