I wa nted to tak e thi s o pport uni ty to clear up a ny mis conceptions o n th is su bje ct. We are cu rre ntly ta king a hard loo k a t th e form at o f th e Camel P ro Series in ligh t o f trends in both domestic and international co m pe tition. Many interesting and exci ti ng options are availa ble. Currentl y , th e AMA ' s Grand Nat ional circuit in cl udes a road ra cin g ser ies with treme ndous potential : a nd th e world 's best a nd most co mpetitive di rt track series . Any cha nges which a re implemented for 1986, or la ter years. will most ass ured ly be designed to fun her th e appeal o f bo th types o f ra cing. T o set the record stra ight, a split of the road race a nd din track portions of th e Camel P ro Series is a mong the options being co nsidered. Bu t no decision has been reac hed as of this date. It is my opinion th at what is n eeded to "fix " pro motocross is to return to basi cs: prod uc tio n bik es, 45-m in u te mo tos (q ua lifiers held on Saturday). natural terrain tru cks, less hype and show bi z a nd more just p lain good rac ing. T o thi s race fan . o u tdoor ra cing is tops. Th is is whe re th e spon began. T he fan ca n ge t close to the actio n a nd get a good feel for th e situa tio ns th e rid ers must d ea l with , unlike sittin g in a scat hundreds o f feet from the track at a supercross. One o ther th in g wh ich wo u ld increase fan interest wo u ld be to elim ina te the AMA ru le w hich lim its a rider to o ne class.
