And 1981 Ventura track cha m p Steve Lucero thrash ed an a ll -star field to tak e th e H and icap main, his fir st T uesda y night win sin ce 1983. In Handi cap racin g , Keith Lar sen slithered to success in hi s neat , as did Lance Kin g , Mark Dw yer and Eddi e In gels. King th en got by Lucero in the last turn for th e win , In th e main , King had th e crowd roarin g as he was all set to mak e an outside move on Lucero . Then King's bi ke sudden ly brok e down, nearly sending him over th e hand lebars. Mazzacane foll owed Lucero across th e fini sh line. . In Second Div ision ac tio n , Doug Nico l cont in ues to remain unbeaten a t all tra cks by winning hi s heat an d the main by lo ts off th e lO-yard-line. J im Peery took his fir st-ever trophy by smo king 'em o ff th e zero -yard-line in Third Division. . • Their biggest competition is each other. When they team up on their Husqvarna 500XC, there is NO competition in their class. The " Danamic Duo" teamed up again and mowed down more than 270 competitors in the Great Mojave 250 desert race. Dan Ashc raft and Dan Smith rode their liquid-cooled, tw inradiator Husqvarna 500XC through the horsepower-draining sands of the desert to the overall w in in the seco nd round of the SCOREHDRA series . Said Ashcraft , " Th e ride was fantastic. There was no power loss due to heat build up for the whole three anda half hours. " Team Husqvarna also picked up a win in the 250 class . Larry Roeseler and Kurt Pfeiffer threw sand in the faces of their competition on a Husqvarna 250XC. " The '8 5 250XC motor and six -speed gear box combination pe rform incredibly together," < mmen red Roeseler. co " Fro m the tight technical sections to the flat :.. out dry lake bed.
