Kurt Rogstadt (Hon) led the troops in th e first 125cc Intermedia te/P ro contes t, followed cl osel y by Pro riders Kenn y Ol son (Ya ma ha Sport Center ) a nd Ricky Gunderson (Yam of Springfi eld ). Rogstadt yielded to th e Pro duo , but did a marvelous job o f holding o ff a n o n-the- mo ve Peck, Cl int Washburn (Kaw) a n d Gary Beyer to win th e Intermed iat e class. McRae was havin g proble ms adapti ng to th e borro wed C R500R h e was rid in g , but sti ll maintained th ird. Hornbar ger recaptured th e lead nea r th e end; then , on the las t la p a co u p le tu rn s before th e checkered flag. Horn barger sta lled a n d was T -bon ed by Maga. Maga recovered firs t for the win. followed by H ornbarger and McR ae. The second mota sa w Maga tak e the hol esh ot with McR ae second. McR ae th en took th e lead for a whi le as Maga and H orn barger p ressured eac h o ther until Hornbarger fell down in a turn. Maga then moved into the lead , whi ch he never relinquish ed.
