Orr ABILENE, TX, MAR. 17 The Open Pro classes proved La be serious business at the Taylor County Coliseum Indoor short track and TT races, 34 Team Scream wins CRRC endurance with a full line-up to fire up th e Abi lene spectators with pl enty of ex citement, dirt track style. James Huddleston got into th e co rner first in th e first Pro flat track heat, but Bill H erndon quickly passed him for th e lead and made th e win look eas y. Huddleston held onto a co m fortable second place a head of Darrin Quinn a nd Mitch H ouden . In heat two, Sammy Sweet got the holeshot ahead of Charlie Orr and David Fisher. But Sweet's motor gave up after four laps of dicing with Orr for th e lead, leaving Orr well ahead of Fisher for the win . Garv Kidd held off Andy West for third place, In the main Orr got the holeshot, followed by Fisher, Herndon and Huddleston. By th e end of lap one th e line up was Herndon, Orr, Huddl eston an d T er ry Poovey, whil e Fish er dropped to fifth . There was a tight three-way battle for th e lead , with Herndon holdin g off Orr a nd Poovey for the first half o f th e ra ce , On lap six , Orr got by H erndon o n th e o u tside, co m in g o ut o f turn two to tak e o ver the l ea~1. On la p seven', Poovey went to (he in side in turn o ne to d rop Hern do n to th ird p lace, the n on lap eig ht use d th e same move o n Orr to ca p ture o ver the lead fo r himself. H ern don th en took th e in side lin e o n la p 10 to regai n second from Orr. T he race end ed with Poovey first, fol low ed by H erndon, O rr a nd Fish er. With another h oleshot, Arlington Honda/Race Ready/LBRT's Orr took th e lead in the Trophy Dash ahead of Herndon, Fisher and Huddleston. Herndon push ed Orr h ard , but co u ld n ' t get by, fini shing half a bikelength behind Orr. The Pro TT heats were split by Gardner Ra cing/Sh oei H elm etssponsored Poovey ahead of Wayn e Brannon, and T eam P a cesetter's H erndon over Fish er. Poovey took th e lead in th e main even t ahead o f Fish er, Bobbv Shaw and H erndon . H erndon took third from Shaw by th e end of lap one, a nd o n lap tw o Shaw went down in th e righthand er. in front o f Orr. It took Orr four laps to work his way back int o fourth place, a nd fo r H erndon it took a n equ al amount of time to get a ro un d Fisher for second. Poovey held o n to the lead wire-to-wire, with H erndon taking a close second . Tripp ca me back for th e main event to battle with H arris a nd Raymond Hughey for th e lead . On the sixth lap, Tripp finally got aro und Harris on th e outsid e o f turn two to take thewin. FEB . 17 An enthusiastic crowd of over 700 peop le c heered on 172 racers at the Las Vegas Motocro ss P a rk Sunday and saw R o bert Naughton beat Kurt H enrick sen in th e I 25cc P ro class a fter some hard-foug ht ra cing. In the en d, though, it wa s Scott Underwood who managed to slip into second overall. Eri c Sa ckett fini shed third. In th e 250cc Pro class. there was a tight battle between Sean Steele, Lenny G iger and Ri ck y Ruppert. Wh en th e dust had sett led , St eele was found leading th e pack a t the checkere d flag , whil e Dav e Townsend managed taking seco n d. Ruppert en ded up losing his seat. Fiv e riders were o n th e sta rt ing line for th e 500cc Pro ra ce, a nd a fte r all th e racing wa s done, Bill y Hill was found lead in g- th e pa ck. H ill en ded up winning . whi le T im Spark s, An th ony Pasqual ouo , Barry Hill a nd Don Fuller followed .
