J o rdan took fir st in th e 125 a nd 175cc Senior cl a sses , whi le Strangio cleaned up th e 250cc an d Open Sen iors. Strangio led th e co m bi ned 250/ I25cc Sen ior class 10 th e Iirst turn a t th e sta rt o f moto o ne a nd was follo wed by Arling ton 's Greg Flan agan an d J ordan. J ordan worked around Fla naga n o n the fir st lap, a nd fo r th e next severa l ci rcui ts, th e tr io freighttr ained arou nd th e co urse. Flanagan passed J ordan for seco nd o n the fourth la p , and then took the lea d wh en Strangio cras h ed later on th e same lap. Stra ngio didn 't lose much time, though , a nd repas sed hi s teammate on th e fin al lap a n d took second 10 Fl anagan . Jordan crossed th e line third but was penalized a lap which gave th e class win 10 Arlington 's Carl Ben jamin. Strangio, Jordan and Flanagan were back in fro nt a race later in th e O pen/ 175cc Senior class an d did much th e sa me thi ng as th e race before. This time i t wa s Fl anagan 's turn to go d o wn as h e cli p pe d Jordan 's rear wheel o n a downhill turn. Once agai n th ey a ll stayed glued to o ne ano the r's rea r fen de r, a nd it wasn' t unti l the sta rt of the fou rt h lap that things began 10 cha nge. Flanagan h eld the lead until h e lan ded off th e fin ish line jump a nd bro ke a bolt in h is Yamaha 's rear suspension , a nd wi th th e p ressure o ff o f Strangio , h e let J o rdan by o n th e sa me lap . J ordan went to take another win . and Benjamin was secon d ahead' of Strangio,-w ho -sri ll took the 250cc over Cerrito's Pau l Rell er. With Fl a naga n ou t for th e nigh t the final moto of th e Open/175cc class was a St rangio/ Tordan show. AMA Expert flat tr ack Pro H arsha put h is Simpso n/Paul's Sport Center Honda XL200 into the lead during th e opening moments of 125-200cc action , bu t Blagg was on the move a nd ca rved th rough traffi c o n his Specialty Cycles/Maxima/R V Doctor YZ. Blagg took th e lead from Harsha, and proceeded to sepa ra te himself from th e rema ining 13 co n testan ts, leaving H arsha a nd Peters on (Kaw) in the place and sho w positions. Harsha came back mounted o n his '84 Honda CR250R to lead lap o n e of 250cc A m ain co m p eti tio n wh ile Fr ank Word III (Pa u ls Sport Center/ Yam ) sl iced a way a t H arsh a 's lead on h is a ncie n t earl y model YZ. Word ch arged , but didn 't have the suspensio n th at H arsha utilized to soak up th e whoop-de-d oc s a nd th e gnarly triple jumps. Harsha took his only win of th e even ing over Word and Steve Croucher (Yam). Mattheison dominated th e O pen A main event eas ily a nd had o n ly Dave N ordin (Yam 125) to wo rr y a bo u t, an d he was so me di stance behind. ,N o rdin loo m ed in the di stance but wasn ' t a factor, which handed Matth eiso n a n easy wi n . No rdin did a marvelous job o n h is 125 10 hold off th ird -p lace Bob Klurn (Han 500) a t the flag. Mauh eiso n (Hon C R500) rocke ted away with th e Open Pro 's money race a nd was never serio us ly cha llen ged.
