The best two classes o f th e day were 125cc and 250cc Intermed ia tes, and surprising ly enough, th ey were both won by the same rider. G ilbert Va ldez had a rea l go of it in the 125cc class o n hi s R&D Suzuk i, as Jimmy P almer on a Rincon Kaw asak i trai led h im by only a bik elen gth or so th e ent ire first moto. In th e second rnoto, Valdez led for awh ile, th en the two rid ers began to see-saw back a nd fort h, wi th Palmer fina lly seem in g to ta ke co m man d a t a bo u t th e half-way mark ; th en he bobbled ever so slig h tly a t th e finish line o n th e next to last lap , wh ere . Valdez regained th e lead a nd held on 10 win. Palmer fin ish ed seco n d, a nd John Mat ia sevich took a 5-4 score in for thi rd - a race pl agued w ith inconsistent fini sh es. In the 250cc m ow s, Valdez, wh o .has o n ly been rid in g a 250 for a shan time, pa rlayed top five starts into a perfect I-I score.
