On hand were so me 400 riders from Washington, Oreg on, Idaho, Montana , Ala ska a n d Canada , participating in the activiti es. Bill West of SuperSports Promotions and Lynn Howla nd of Hi-Tee Motocross Productions put together a very smoo th and well -run ra ce program which this year gave a ma teu rs th e cha nce to run a ll day . Idah o 's " Li g h m ing " L owell Thompson em er ged as the o n ly double winner at Sea ttle, taking hi s Team Green/j.T.-sponsored Kawasakis to vic tory in both th e 80cc Expert a n d l 25cc B cl asses . Sever a l other riders , including J ason Pea rson (Hon ), Mike Jorgensen (H o n ), Chaun McCallister (Yam ) and Don Kn ob lauch (Kaw ) nearly pu lled off th e same feat, but only Th ompson e mer ged wit h a double wh en the smoke cleared . Ro d Stanley (Kaw) took the first win of the day wit h a 1-2 fi nish in th e 65cc A division for the overa ll. Behind him so m e great racing took pl ac e with P earson , Jason McCormick (Kaw ) a n d Mik e Hurst (H o n) following Stanley across th e line at th e end of the first round. Moto tw o was a different story as R yan Huffman (Ka w) piloted his gr een m achine to a wire-to-wire win , followed by S ta n ley. T eam Green's Larry Ward took th e hol eshot in front of teammate T hom pso n, T eam Yamaha/O 'Neal rider Paul Winn and Sinsa lo/ Ka wasa ki-m o u nted J eff Dail y of O regon . Ward kept the lead for tw o laps until Thompson flew p ast o n lap th ree. T hom pso n stayed up front fo r th e rem ainder to take th e win. Wa rd pl aced seco nd, a n d Winn , Dail y, a nd H on da rider Troy Doty rounded o u t th e to p five spo ts. Mot o tw o found Thompson up front from start to finish. but a great ra ce went on with Winn and Ward both taking turns in th e second spot. Wi nn spen t th e fin al lap in th e second position, a nd s uccessfu ll y held off Ward to take second in the moto and the overall. Ida ho rid er Brian Thompson (Ya m) a n d Dail y took th e fou rth and fifth sp o ts in th e moto wi th Daily's 4-5 tall y, taking fourth overall behind Ward. David Foster (H o n) and Paul Row land (K aw) both won m otos, bu t problems o f one so rt or another kept them from the ov er al l. Susan Chapman (Kaw ) was seco n d ov erall by virtue of her 4-3 score. A big fie ld o f 85cc C riders found . Barr on lo o ked e x t remely stro ng , running up front during every lap o f both races. Ca nada's Mike J orge nsen took hi s H onda to th e second o vera ll spot with a 5-2 fini sh , whil e J am ie Munson (Kaw), Pa u l Winn (Yam), Scou Steffey (Ka w), and Honda ri d er Larry Keubl er Jr., did some di cing to esta blis h the third through six th ove ra ll positi ons. Wi th so me 40 riders in the 125cc B class, T hom pson found hi s going a li tt le to ughe r. Both he a nd McCallister won th eir respective h eats, and w hen th e ga te dropped Thompson wa s lead i ng McCalli ster , David Ander son a nd Ton y Comstock (Hon ) on th e ho lesh ot, McCallister wasn't going to Rive in a s he passed Thompson a nd gai n ed the lead on la p two . But wh en Thompson p assed him ba ck, it wa s fo r g ood. Thompson took the o vera ll wi n with McCallis ter second, C u rt Sta naway third, Comstock fourth a nd Oregon' s Steve Jones fifth . Si x ty-s ix rider s did battle in th e l 25cc C cl a ss with Shaun Woods, Ed J en son (Hon) a n d Perry Berger sta king cl a im to th eir 'respective heat win s. In th e final J enson looked like he had it dialed for the win, but he crash ed . This left Montana 's Jack Gabelhausen to ta ke the victory wi th J enson recovering to take second, a lt ho ug h he had broken his co llarbone when he fell. Both Jorgensen and McCallister wer e rew arded with win s in the 250cc A and B classes , respectively , af ter taking ea rl ier runner-ups in th e 125cc A a n d B classes. Jorgense n 's 250cc A win ca me with rel a tive ease; af ter pa ssin g Honda -mounted Bru c e Barnes who hol esh otted , J o rg en sen led th e rest of the main wi th a n umber o f riders tryi ng to c1aim second.
