For the past two years Honda 's CR250R h as
been a' favorite weap o n for the serious priva teer and semi-serious weekend racer. In
1983 the CR was the best 250cc motocrosser
o n the track.
For 1984 the H o n da got even
better with more power a nd
better handling. Man y people

felt the 1984 CR250R was still th e
best , while some felt Su zuk i's RM250
was a head due to su perior suspe nsio n.
At a ny rat e in 1984 th e co m pe titio n
was gain ing ground on H onda. Now
the 1985 Honda CR250R is h ere, but
wh ether or not th e H onda is still th e
best rema ins to be seen.
The latest CR250R isn ' t ra dica lly
cha nged - refined is th e word. Cos meti c cha n ges include redesigned
radia tor shrouds, resh aped fenders
and side panels, an d new grap hi cs
with blue fork boots.
Some H onda riders complai ned
th at th e 1984 C R didn 't have en ough
low en d, and 1985 porting specs have
cha n ged tha t. Also new is that a
bridge ha s been added betw een th e
exha u st ports to help elim inate problems wi th a crac ked and , or shattered
p iston - a trouble C R250s have had
for severa l yea rs. The 60 x 72mm bor e
and stroke and 8.6: I co mp ression
ra tio remain th e sa me in the 246cc,
liq u id -coo led two- stroke en gine .
The Autom atic Torque Amplifica tion Chamber (ATAC) is completely
redesigned for easier maintenance.
The ATAC system in las t yea r's CR
was cast into th e front section o f the
cylinder, bu t is now located on the
exhau st cham ber - lik e last year's
CR125.
Water-cooling has been improved
by red esigning the cylinder head passageways to improve flow , and the
