For J ones it was a return to the amateur rounds of the CMC/Skoal Bandits Golden State Nationals after missing the Huron round th e week before because of a racing commit- 20 •• ment for the Parker 400. At th e halfwa y mark o f th e Iive-lap moto , Millerloo ked like he had Jones set up for a pass. But th en Miller blew it on an uphill wh en he a p pa ren tly mi ssed a shift. th en sta lle d hi s bik e. letti ng j ones make a cl ean ge ta way . Olson th en went by. a n d in th e closing two la ps. Mi ller was fighting his wa y back for second. But at the flag it was j ones way O UI in front, with Olson second and Miller making a la st-d itch blast o n th e gas for a close third. The firs t 80cc Expert start saw Lewis get the ho lesho t. wi th Pasca rella and Colin Ka rch er (Ya m) in tow . Brow n was involved in a first turn pi le-up which had him get restarted dead last. Within a couple of laps. Bro wn worked h is wa y back up to eigh th p lace . The nex t lap had Bro wn in sixth. then fifth . At the white flag la p Bro wn was in fourt h ! By this ti me. Lewis was long-gone with the firs t round victory in hand. Second was Pasca rell a wi th Karch er third. Lew is got th e lead aga in in th e seco nd rnoto, followed by Bro wn . T his time nobody slipped a nd th e tWO H onda-mounted riders ro de 1-2 a ll the way . It looked as if th at was going to be th e way Le wis and Brown would fin ish . but just before the Devil' s Dro p . Lew is sudden ly chop ped th e th ro ttl e. letting Bro wn by for th e win. Lew is id led across th e finish lin e for seco nd with th e o vera ll win. a nd Brown 's round two win was good for seco nd ove ra ll. Third pl ace a n d th ird overa ll went to Pa scarella. The sta rt o f th e first 500cc Intermedi ate mota had Jack Azevedo (H a n) leading. foll owed by Aaro n P ipes (Han) . Mark J ones (Han) and Seibert. In th e next few laps. Marnoch had wo rked h is way up 10 th e leaders . bu t was just behind Seibert. Pipes th en took over the lead. wit h Marnoch no w in seco nd .. back in fo u rth
