Peterson rod e in third ahea d of teammat e Bob Ingle jr. (Hon ) and Campbell (Yam ). Campbell had a rough time in his third class of th e evening, crashing himself back to m id-pack. A set of triple jumps didn 't slow th e acti o n, but did a llo w H arsha past Mathi eson la te in the race for his third win o f the night. H arsha topped th e 125cc, 250cc and Open P ro money mai ns o n a pair o f Hondas. Lance H older (Suz) swep t through th e evening in th e 80cc prel iminaries a nd o nce agai n during th e 80cc A fin al , tak ing a big win on th e fasterthan-ever track. H older fought off cons istent Kristin Cowan (Yam ) to bag th e win , with RM -mounted Mike j ackson pl acing third. Harsha has been loo king for a win in th e 125cc class a ll season and tonight fin ally came away with th e la urels on his 200 Honda four-stroke after putting away Holder (Suz) and fellow RM p ilot T ony Sprangl e. H arsha 's second win ca me in th e 250cc A final, smo king into the lead as he has all season long. T ed Perreard (Suz) and Nationa l IT speedster jeff Campbell (G ra n ts Pass Suzuki ) did all they co u ld a t reeling him in , but to no avail, as Harsha gra bbed an easy win. The Open A fin al had Mark Mathieson (H o n) lead Campbell (Yam ) a nd Cave juncti on 's Don Peterson with Mathi eson taking th e chec kered flag, givin g him a boo st going into the O pen Pro main even t. Campbell finished second. Word topped the I25cc A main, 250cc A main a nd th e Open Pro money main even ts in 1I 16-m ile indoor short track action on his Paul's Sport Center/Simpson-sponsored Yamahas. j oe Don Ireland kicked o ff th e even ing by demolishing th e 60cc A main event on his Honda over riva l Zach R u nd (Hon) . TT sp ecia lis t Wayne Frampton rod e a Honda CR60 which was down on power com pa red to the machi nery his comrades were piloting in th e 80cc A cla ss. Frampton started th e evening by pi ling-up the radiator on h is Suzuki RM80, but rode well on the borrowed 60 to fol low Kristin Cowan (Yam) and tak e advantage of a cou rse-cu tt ing error by Cowan to take th e win with j aso n Cowan (Yam) and Mickjackson (Suz) second and third. Hoover tops 250cc ProsatSMX Corona By Nate Rauba By Terry Whytal SUNNYMEAD, CA, JAN. 20 CO RONA, CA, JAN. 6 A first and a third wer e good enough for J ohn Gensjes (Kaw) to ta ke th e win in th e 250cc Novice class today at DeAnza Yamaha r ider Ji m H oo ver handled all challengers en ro u te to a sweep of the 250cc P ro class at th is week's Saddl eback Racing Club's Sunday mo tocross. Gensjes rode hard and was aided by the m isfortune of some o f his com pe titors. Pomon a Valley Kawasaki 's David H a lverson grabbed the holeshot at th e start of moto one, with Da n Money (Hon ), Steve Sequeira (Perform an ce Cycl e/KTM), a nd Gensjes in hot pursuit. On the second lap, Money stuffed underneath H a lverson a nd forced the Kawasaki pilot off th e track, but a few moments lat er Money crashed hard a nd was o u t for the day with injuries. T his gave th e lead to Gen sjes , wh o had passed Sequeira earlier in th e la p. Gen sjes quickly pu lled away , whi le George Ges ner (Hon), Victor Nunez (Yam), a nd Greg Royba l (Kaw ) closed-in on Sequeira in their battle for third. Sequeira had some an x ious momen ts on the last two laps as he en countered slower Beginner tra ffic with th e trio o n hi s tail , but was ab le to get by to fini sh second well behind Gen sjes. Gesner was ca ug h t in the traffic on th e fin a l lap whi ch a llowed Roybal to get clo se, but he held Ro ybal off to tak e thi rd . H alverson came back with a vengean ce in the second mot o and quickly roosted to a com forta ble lead . Sequeira held second over Bo b Nunez (PVK) , and Gesner battled with Royal over fourth. Halfway int o the moto G esner fell , and on th e next lap Nunez a lso went down giving Roybal third. Sequ eira dumped it in a tight turn a couple of laps later and Gensjes follo wed Roybal pa st th e fallen KTM rid er. H al verson easily won th e moto, finishi ng way a head of Roybal and Gen sjes. Roybal earne d second overa ll with a 4-2 score, and Sequeira pi cked himself up in tim e 10 sa lvage fourth - third overall. Suzu ki pi lot j oe Melton chased Hoover to the ch eckers in moto o ne but DNF the second round as Tony Sp ear mov ed , his Suzuki into th e number two slot and pi cked u p th e second place money wi th a consistent 3-2 score . Suzuki-mo unted Da ve Eropkin ro unded out th e top th ree money p laces. Honda rid er Br uce Ha rerow claimed th e 250cc Intermediate class victory after a two mo ta battle with Honda-moun ted Randy Rush and Yamaha pilot David Klein . Harerow's 1-2 score took the overall win with Klein earning the ru nner-up positio n fo llowed by Rush . . Robbie Perez rode his Kawasa ki to the 80cc Novice Stock win best ing both motos and holdin g off a de termined jason McDougal who rode his Ka wasa ki mount to second overall.
