Eric McKenna and Larry Dash iell were toda y's top P ro class winners. Dashiell cap tu red the win in the 250cc cla ss, while McKenna edged Dash iell in the Open cla ss bout. Almost 30 riders lined the sta rt ing gate at th e sta rt o£ th e fir st 2S0cc Pro moto, Dashiell took the ea rly lead but sta rted slowin g at th e haI£way point. Washington'sJ im Anderson £ollowed in Vohland £ootstep s and moved into second. At th e fini sh, Dashiell managed to hold back Dave Coupe', while Donnie Cantaloupi settled for fifth. Wh ile being loaded into the ambulance with a leg injury, Cabral said, " Howie wa s supposed to let me through , but I guess he forg ot ." As th e ra ce progressed , Coupe' started to fade and Dashiell motored o n by, th en Anderson got on th e mov e a nd passed Coupe' a nd started to reel in Dashiell. "I would look over m y shoulder a nd see him (Anderson ) com ing, a nd th en o n th e last la p , I look ed over and didn 't see him , and I thought, 'alrigh t.' T he n I £igured o u t that he was right beh ind." Durin g the last th ree laps, Anderson ca ug h t up to less th an three bikelengths, but he co uld n 't mak e th e pass. With Vohland and Cantaloupi n o t fini sh in g , Dash iell cap tured th e overall, while Anderson took seco nd. Third overa ll went to Coupe'. In the first 500cc Pro moto , MeKenna a nd Dash iell duked it out through o u t the moto with McKenna taking th e win. Bre t Cahors snuck by Jon Nel son and R ick Luther nea r th e end of th e moro to fini sh third. In the seco nd round it wa s a kn ockdown drag out battl e between MeKenna, Joey Schl ag a nd Dashiell. But a t th e fini sh, it was o nce aga in McKenna that prevailed. Schlag Iinished second, while Dashiell finis hed third. In the first rnot o, Sch lag crashed a nd fini sh ed sixth, so Da shi ell's 2-3 co m bo was good eno ugh to beat Schl ag for seco nd overa ll. Arnet was th e fastest rider on th e course, winn in g eac h m oto by a wide margin agai ns t a tough field of local pros. Suzuki pilot Greg Nash used the su perb tra ction avai labl e aft er th e recent rai ns to power to the number two slo t a head o £ H onda rider Chris Fleming. Kawasak i-supported Kurt H enricksen took top honors in 125cc P ro ac tio n winn ing moto one and placing second in round two to best th e sco re o £seco nd overall Mark Filler on a Yamaha. Mark Hildebrand a nd his Honda XRSOO man aged to take the overall win. Starting together, Mar k Hi ldebrand and Ed H ickey were less than 30 seconds apa rt a t chec k o ne , and they ca me through ch eck two tog ether. Hi ldebrand', pit stop was qu icker , but H ickey set orr in pu rsuit. He ca u gh t a ditch a t about 90 m ph an d did a big get-off. H ickey wa s unhurt , but th e bik e took the brunt of the ·im pact.Surveying thedam age, Hi ckey was off again . but a smashed exhaust system slowed him down .
