Latest Poop (Continued from page 6) Yamaha has announced a massive 1,154,760 contingency fund for the 1985 racing season, covering road races, motocrosses and ATV events, in most cases paying down to five places to privateers on Yamahas only. The program covers AMA Superbike races ( 1000 to win); 109 WERA, AFM and AMAlCCS production races ($500 to win); 26 WERA and AMA/ CCS endurance races ( 500 to win); and 50 RZ350-only challenge cup races organized by AFM and AMAJ CCS (paying 200 to win). Tri-Z 250 . racers can earn $500 for winning one of 51 different races under various sanctions. Yamaha will pay riders down to 21st place in Supercross races, with $5000 going to a Yamaha privateer winning a Supercross and $150 going to the 21st rider in the final event. In outdoor Nationals a win will pay $2500 and 20th will pay $20. Various AMA, CMC, NMA, N ESC' and .other motocross series will have cash and "YZ Bucks" certificates paid to Yamaha pilots. ~ 00 0"> Confirmed AMA Supercron events for 1986 include San Diego. California on January 26; Anaheim. California on February 2; Seattle. Washington on February 8 and 9; Indienapolis. Indiana on February 16; February 23 in Atlanta, Georgia; April; 3 and 14 in Pontiac, Michigan; and May 4 in Orlando, Florida. Other dates and locations ar~ to be released soon. Home track advantage: While the complete National Championship Motocross schedule has not been released by the AMA, there is a possibility that a round of the series may be run at David Bailey's Lake Sugar Tree MX Park in Axton, Virginia. Bailey may then get a chance to win a ational on his "home" track. Bailey, who bought the facility in early '84, lives less tban a mile down the road from tbe track. Australian Geoff Ballard will again be competing in the U.S. during 1985. riding the National Cham. pionship Enduro/Hare Scrambles events with sponsorship from CanAm. Ballard will work/ride out of Can-Am's Duluth, Minnesota. office. and will join John Martin to form their eastern off-road effort. The machine Maddii will reportedly ride will have a power valve system, and prospects of seeing the bike as a production model in '86 are good. Eight-year-old Mishell Velasco won the Italjet M55 minicycle in the Cycle News Gift Sweepstakes drawing on December 17.
