Heat two was Terry Poovey's all the way - he finished ahead of Bret Braddy and Nickie Fontana. Kenny Tolben won the third heat, with Shon Stovall and Sammy POller in second and third. Shoei HelmeLS-sponsored Poovey again took the lead in the first semi, followed by Adams, Fontana and SLOva11. On lap six, Brad Taylor decided a fifth place finish would not give him a front-row stan and came out of lUrn two with a hard drive LO overtake bOlh Stovall and Fontana down'me back straight and move up behind Adams LO take the checkers in third. Fontana and Stovall earned the last two transfers. Tolben led the second semi, with Braddy and Raymond Huddleston running a tight second and third at the end of lap one. After a second row stan, Orr staned LO challenge Braddy and HuddlesLOn on lap two, then HuddlesLOn apparemly missed a shift coming out of turn four was bumped by Orr; Huddleston went down. Arlington Honda/Race Ready/Yelvy's Racing Heads-sponsored Orr recovered to chase the leaders again, dropping Braddy to third on lap six, then weOl after Tolben riding on the outside to ca tch T 01 ben ou t of turn four on the last lap and reach the finish line only inches ahead of Tolben. POller and Billy Haynie rounded out the line-up for the main eveDl. Four national numbers sat on the from row of the Pro-Am main. Poovey got the holeshot, followed by Tolben, Orr and Taylor. By the end of lap one, it was Poovey, Orr, Taylor and Fontana. On lap two, Tolben • and Adams both passed FonLana then on lap five - Adams got by Tolben LO ride in tandem with Taylor. Orr took the lead on lap six as he bumped Poovey 0[£ the groove in turn one. 1L was only temporary, though, as Poovey repaid with iOlerest in turn four and Orr left tire marks all the way down the wall on the from straightaway. Adams went to the' oUlside in turn four to pass Taylor for third 'in lap seven. Orr continued to pressure Poovey as they raced half a straightaway ahead of the bauling duo of Adams and Taylor, but the positions were set and Poovey won by a bike1ength over Orr.
