Order me today!" Arnet sweeps 'Dunes Saturday motocross P..... tum to the order blank on the Dealer Directory Pege. At Saturday MX at Indian Dunes. Ed Arnet styled to victory in the 500 and 250cc Pro classes on the Shadow Glen track. By Chris Boice VALENCIA, CA, NOV. 17 A surprise rainfall Friday night made track preparation for .Saturday's racing a big job for the crew at Indian Dunes. Most riders agreed tha I the track was well prepped, technically challenging and fun. The track certainly agreed with Ed Arnet who made a clean sweep in . two classes on the muddy Shadow Glen track. Arnet easily led both motos in the 250cc and Open Pro classes from start to finish. Larry Brooks took top honors in the 125cc Pro class. . In the first 250cc moto, Wild Willie Surratt grabbed the holeshot and led for three laps until Arnet slipped his Ken Bolle-sponsored Yamaha under him in a left sweeper. The two riders diced for a short time, but Arnet easily out-distanced Surratt and the rest of the pack. Pete Snorteland put on a strong performance in third for the first half of the 'race but was overtaken by hard. charging Accurate Racing's Gary DePillo. In the second moto Arnet led from wire-to-wire for an easy overall victory. Tony Toste (Suz) was in command of second place until he got out of shape over the triple jumps and dropped back to 10th. DePillowaited in the wings and took over second but was overtaken by Billy Frank and Surratt, who.came up from mid-pack starts. At the checkered £lag, the top three overall finishers were Arnet, Surratt and DePillo. Honda-mounted Billy Frank got the awesome holeshot in the first I 25cc Pro mota. At some point in the race, his seat was unable to keep up Lhe pace and sat out the rest of the mota beside Lhe tra~k. Erik Kehoe £lew from the back of the pack and passed Bobby Moore, Ray Sommo, Brooks, Doug O'Donnell, Mouse McCoy, and Frank (who had slowed considerably since losing his seat) to take the first-moto win. In the second round Moore (Kaw) and Brooks (Hon) battled lap after lap.for the lead. Kehoe moved up to Lhird until mechanical problems sent him to the pits wiLh two laps remaining. At the flag, Lhe overall winners were Brooks, Moore and Sommo. Results tha~(~:~);1i~~~~~~~~~:~)2 Roben Guetso JR: 1. Mike Reiley (VIm); 2. Lence Goodmen (Kaw); 3. Jeff Kochonen (KIwi. SO INT: 1. Hames returns home at Corona TT By Elaine Jones CORONA. CA, NOV. 4 Pete Hames, returning from a season on the Camel Pro Series Tour, proved he hadn't forgotten how to ride Corona Raceway as he took home the money in both Open classes. On 'the TI', it was Jeff Johnson who got the nod off the line with Hames in second and Curtis Cannon in third. It took Hames two laps to find a line around Johnson, but once he had. it was all she wrote and he was gone. Johnson had no trouble keeping Cannon at bay for second. On the half mile, Hames climbed aboard the Dodge Brothers Racing Harley and proceeded to show everybody how it's don~. Cannon started behind him with Jeff Johnson In third. Johnson got by Cannon on the third lap and went after Hames, and, although he got close. all he could do was follow Hames home for second. Cannon was third with Dan Kane and Jimmie O'Dell rounding out Lhe field. The Not-So-Over-the-Hill Gang UNICORN WORKS had a familiar face oUt of the past leading the troops around was Tom White, White had no trouble finding the line he wanted as he went straight to the from and stayed there. He was followed by a friend from Holland, Henk Thuis, who told us he was more at home on a motocross course than a flattrack but nevertbeless gave an excellant accounting of himself. Don Meiner held Bill Bartels off fQr the third. Since he had so much fun on the TT, White gave the half mile a go and found it to his liking winning wire to wire. The second spot was the one up for grabs with Bartels taking it off the line and holding it . for four laps· only to have Richard Schroeder get by him and stay there for the remaining four. To round off the night, White went heads up with Cannon in the Open Expert TT and it was quite a race. Off the line, Lhe lead went to White with Jason Bell second and Cannon third. Cannon' got by Bell in one lap bUI found White a bit more of a challenge; It wasn't until Lhe fifth lap that Cannon was able to take comrol of the first spot, and tben all he had to do was keep While from getting by umil the checkered fell. Cannon won, while White settled for a second, Jason Bell. picked up the third. Jim Kessler ran his win streak i.o two-in-a-row a5 he took the Open ExPert naU mile, topping Dan Kane and Jason Bell. Two Open Novices earned transfers to Amateur with their performances. John Penner came up with wins on both the TT and half mile, while Ruben MaJaguarnero specialized in the half mile only. Both riders will be good additions to the already talentladened Amateur class. - , . bIiooorioI . . . . . • • • . . • .• -,. _ PEe WEE: 1. Dustin Sklilki (ylm); 2. Willie Hinkle(Ylm). MINIS: 1.
