During the race the repairs came loose and Harden lhoughl the pipe was going lO bum a hole in the lank so he had LO back off while lrying LO calch Crandall. Ted Hunnicul (Yam) was firsl lO lhe bomb and had a greal race going wilh Crandall until he caughl a big ro k from the ATK's rooSl in lhe shoulder. "I lhoughl il broke my shoulder, il hun so much. il really deluned me" said Hunnicul. "We had swapped the lead back and fonh four or five Limes." Rodger McCabe losl fifth gear on his CR500 Honda bUlmanaged a LOp 20 finish. Second woman was enduro rider Candy Hand (Yam), jusl a few posilions ahead of friend and compeliLOr Dana Bell (Hus). Hand was ecslalic as il was the firsl lime she had ever bealen Bell. While lhey bolh could have entered Intermediale, lhey opled for the Expen dass. Bell beal her husband Sam, who slaned in lhe lhird wave. A founh-wave Slaner, 50-year-old enduro rider Ed Mazenko had a lousy stan when il LOok lhree kicks LO gel his 490 Maico going bUl was having a good ride until his bike's left shock blew OUl and the spring keeper broke on his bike's righl shock leaving him wilh lillie suspension. BUldelerminalion had him allhe finish line again, lired bUlextremely happy. Ron Shuler (Yam) broke a shock on his bike Friday during the bomb run and ralher lhan run wilh an unfamiliar slock shock, he decided nOl lO ride. His dad, Earl was on a new 1985 YZ250 Yamaha.
