Chris Carr (20) came from a 21st-place gridding to take third in the F2 class at Willow Springs. Here he's ready to pass Honda rider Burke Steed. PIIO-sertes ..... street Mich.itsch s'oshes to S'Oppy A'bany SXwins By Clay Light ALBANY, OR, NOV. II Mother nature wasn't cooperative for the first round of a threerace AMA Fall motocross series, drenching Oregon with two inches of rain and makingconditions miserable, as 130 riders braved the forces of nature, Tim Michlitsch (Town CenterYam!Malcolm Smith! Yam Support) topped two Pro classes, winning the 250cc and Open divisions. Kawasaki pilot Kenny Olson took the 125cc Pros by storm. Michlitsch took the first Open Pro mota by sloshing to a good-sized lead in the soupy sand after pulling away from Suzuki-mounted Grayson Han and Alan Hinkley (Tri-City Han). Richard Earle had a miserable day, falling while in third and ending his six-maLO domination of the class here atAlbany Speedway. Michlitsch breezed to a win over Hart, Hinkley, Kurt Stevens (Yam) and Earle, who're second through fifth. Michlitsch and Hart were side by side in moto two coming through the water-filled whoop-de-dos, but by lap two it was Michlitsch again pulling away with the 10-lap moto while Hart and Hinkley shuffled for positions ahead of Earle and Stevens. Earle nearly caught Hart, but stalled in a waterhole and finished fifth behind winner Michlitsch, Han, Hinkley and Stevens. Hart came mounted on his trusty KX for the first 125cc Pro contest and sloshed through the unbelievable quagmire en route to the first maLO win over Suzuki rider joe Spangler and Olson. Olson managed LO squeeze his Kawasaki into the mota two lead in turn one and was chased by Han and Spangler for three laps until Hart stalled and gave Spangler a chance at the KX pilot. Spangler stayed glued to Olson, but coming across the line, he lost out by a wheel for LOp payoff. Olson scored a 3-1 for first to beat Spangler (2-2) and Han (1-4). The 250cc Pro class had Michlitsch in the lead in the first mQ/.o as the rain continued LO hammer down. David Fox rode in second briefly on an '85 Yamaha, but faded back. jere Meeker (Cag) LOok over second to finish long behind Michlitsch, but ahead of Steve Hiersche(Hon). Moto two saw Michlitsch again motor off to an effortless lead and take the top cash payoff while Meeker took second overall LO beat Chad Klingbeil (5-3). lighter than stock or other aftermanet fOur Into two svstems.
