~ Km ~ Roberts ~ Thanks for the O"l ....... memories Three·time 500cc Road Racing World Champion and two·time Grand National Champion Kenny Roberts has retired from motorcycle racing. The first thing he did after retiring was break a femur while trail· riding in the desert with some friends; that put a planned car·racing career on hold. But Roberts has said he's through racing motor· cycles, that he's quitting while he's stilI on top form, and we believe him. Here we look back at Roberts' incredible career and remember some highlights...Editor. This publicity shot was sent out by Yamaha after Roberts won his second Grand National Championship in 1974. Riding in his first AMA Grand National Championship race. the 1972 Houston TT. Roberts finished third behind John Hateley and Eddie Mulder. He won the following night's Houston Short Track Nationel. Roberts made this last-lap pass of Rex Beauchamp to win the 1973 Colorado National Mile. Former World Champion Kel Carruthers (sitting on bike) tended to Roberts' road race bikes for over a decade. 34. Riding the TZ750-powered Yamaha dirt tracker, Roberts leads Corky Keener and Steve Morehead in the 1975 San Jose Mile.
