flag. Posca took third ahead of Seagale and Honda rider Tim Whitlock.
Surratt didn't have much trouble
winning the second moto, while Posca
finished in the number two slot. Seagale took third ahead of Helm and
Rieman. Rieman's 2-5 entitled him
to second overall in the series:
Yamaha-mounted Mike Fowler
jumped into the early lead atlhestart
of the first 250cc Junior moto with
another Yamaha rider Joe Merriam
hot on his tail. For the first few laps,
Fowler enjoyed a comfortable lead
while Merriam, Darrin Hoeft and
Honda rider Mike Neff followed.
However, Fowler developed engine
problems as Merriam closed in. Halfway through the race, Merriam made
his move and passed Fowler and his
crippled Yamaha. Then Neff started
to make a move and passed H.oeft,
then Fowler two laps from the finish.
In the end it was Merriam, Neft,
Hoeft and Fowler.
Fow ler overcame his first-moto
blues and won the second round.
NeH took second again to claim the
overall win, third in the moto went to
Yamaha rider Steve Lawler, while
fourth and fifth went to Merriam and
Yamaha-mounted Jim Vatrghan.
Honda .rider Eric Wicker used a 2-1
score to capture the win in the I25cc
Novice class, beating Kawasakimounted Jehrrod Thames' 4-1 tally.
Wicker took the early lead at the start
of the first moto and never looked
back. Eric Huffine (Hon) recovered
from a fourth-place start to challenge
Honda rider Steve Parent for second.
With one lap to go, Huffine stuffed
his Honda to the insideof Parent in a
turn and took over second. Wicker
won the moto with a l3-second
cushion over Huffine, then Parent,
Thames and Yamaha rider Tony
Olivieri.
Thames managed to take the win
the second time outover Wicker, Parent, Huffine and Suzuki rider Michael
Edward. Parent's 3-3 combo gave
him third.
In the Sidecar race, which took
place Sunday, the Pete and SCOtt
Whitney team went home with the
series title. The Whitneys held a slim
points lead going into the final round,
but Pete was nursing a broken foot
that he suffered tl1e week before at
Sand Hi11. THey were only hoping to
salvage a second after the Indian
Dunes race, but they managed a third
in the first moto and amazingly won
the second round. This gave them the
championship, while the Randy Langosh and Casey Farrell team won the
overa II toda y bu t took second in the
series.
