Rutherford pushed around the corner next, and a fouled plug stopped his bike, then he was disqualified for getting .outside help. Thede drove by Rutherford for the win. Maki took second, and Suzuki of Riverside's Kevin Montgomery was third, ahead of Decker. "The game plan," said Thede jokingly afterwards, "was to go out there - crash a few times - then let everyone else run out of gas." "We put gas in, then I took off and had it won," said Maki. "Then it ran out in the last turn, and I pushed it all the way to the checkers. What a workout!"
