Surrall crashed, losing a few positions and handing Robby Gordon third and Honda's Shaun Kalas fourth. A lap later, Davis slipped past Chesser for the lead then quickly pulled away. Meanwhile, Hicks began making up losttirne by picking off one or two riders at a time. By' the fifth lap, Hicks had control of fourth. At this point, Surratt caught and passed Chesser for second, then Chesser started feeling heavy pressure from Hicks. With a few laps remaining, Hick reeled-in Surratt, and the three riders were within inches of each other with one lap to go. Halfway through the lap, Surratt made his move on Davis for the lead; then, one turn before the checkered flag, Davis and Hicks were side-by-side. On the straightaway that followed, Hicks out-powered Davis and crossed the finish line a frontwheel length ahead of Davis. Chesser LOpk fourth ahead of Suzuki rider Nicky Pounds and Yamaha-mounted Mike Young. Chesser again stole the holes hot at the start of mota two but was passed by Hicks between the first and second turn. After Chesser pursued Gary Dellegatte, Kalas and Pounds. Hicks quickly jumped out to a comfortable lead, while Kalas closely chased Chesser. With each lap, Hicks stretched his lead. while Chesser did the same over Kalas. Close behind Kalas was Davis. Surratt had a poor start but began making his way throu.gh, \l)e pack. While inches be- O'Show claims OrangeShow By Kit Palmer SAN BERNARDINO, CA, ocr. 13 Team Honda's Johnny O'Mara topped the 125cc Pro class - after a thrilling come: from-behind ride - and led from start to finish in the 250cc class at the fourth round of the Continental Motosport Club's/Pioneer Elecuonics Trans-Cal Series. The race was held in the Orange Show Stadi- 10 um in San Bernardino, California which is the only supercross event during the seven-race series. Making il a Honda sweep, Mike Fisher also had to come from behind to win the 500cc class. In the Mini Expenclass, Yamaha's "Wonder Boy" Eddie Hicks finally lost a maLO after crashing in the first round. However. Hicks came back to dominate the second iq]0LO to cjai:q rtP,e, prtrrel'v .. continuing his overall win streak. eocc Expert SUluki-mounted Mike Pascarella captured the holeshot in the first mota (80cc Experts had two matos, while the 125, 250 and 500s had one 20-lap main each), while Kawasaki rider Scan Chesser, Honda pilot Ty Davis and another Honda rider William Surratt chased. Hicks gated poorly and came around the first couple of turns in the middle of the 16-rider field. While trying to pass through the long stutter-bump section, Hicks got out of shape and crashed. 'SOOcc ProAfter an evening full of qualifying, the 500cc main was set. Mike Larson, on a water-cooled CR500 Honda, roosted out to the front of the pack while Honda rider Todd Peterson; Yamaha-mounted Scott Manningand Honda pilot Gene Gentsch followed. Honda's Danny "Magoo" Chandler had a mid-pack start. Larson stre'tched his lead during the first lap, while Manning and Fisher fought over second. During the fourth lap, Larson dropped back to third, handing Manning the lead with Fisher a few seconds back in second. After Larson were Peterson and Chandler. Fisher closed the gap between himself and Manning during the next two laps, then passed Larson, taking command. Manning dropped back a few bikelengths, holding a slim advantage over Larson. Two laps later, Fisher crashed while jumping a series of double jumps. "I came up to a lapped rider and got a little out of shape over the first two jumps," fiaid Fisher. "I came off the 'last two jumps wlth the gas off and landed in a hole. That pitched me ofI." Fisher reentered the race in fourth with noticeably-bent handlebars.
