The XR600R's 591cc, 97 x 80mm dry-sump engine has a gear-driven counter-balancer shaft; oil is stored in the frame. The 1985 VF1000R, which replaces the VF1000F; (below) The new XR350R with 353cc dry-sump engine. XR80 gets Pro-Unk single-rear·shock suspension and new styling for 1985; (below) the 234cc Rebel looks like a small-scale Harley·Davidson. range on fuel remaining, Lime zone, and other stuff; electronic cruise control, low-mounted cornering lights much like those seen on some Cadillacs, a travel trunk incorporating a mirror and internal light; new LCD displays showing speed, rpm, gear selection, fuel level, oil temperature and pressure, coolant temperature and voltage; a four-speaker (two front, two rear) radio system with joystick balance control, remote handlebar controls, cass"elte pia yer and intercom; on-board air compressor system with digital suspension pressure readout; an adjustable seat and a lot of other incredible features including a portable crane to lift the thing up if it tips over (no, no, just kiddingon that last one - I think). Wheelbase is 63.4 inches, seat height 30.7 inches and claimed dry weight 771.8.pounds. Re,r.ail price.is rumored the 498cc 500 Interceptor. HOflda'sdual-purpose line is made up of the 598cc, 100 x 75mm XL600R with new tapered intake ports, more compression (9: I) and dual 28mm carbs for 1985; the 339cc XL350R; the 249cc XL250R; the 124cc XLI 255; the 99cc XL 1005; and the 80cc XLBOS. Four-stroke enduro bikes include the new dry-sump, 591cc, 97 x 80mm XR600R with a gear-driven counterbalancer, 13mm fork stanchion tubes, 57-inch wheelbase, II inches of front travel and 11.8 inches of rear travel from a Pro-Link single-rear-shock with externally-adjustable rebound and compression damping, digital clock-tripmeter-speedometer, folding brake and shift levers, handlebar brush guards, safety seat, 2.8-gallon fuel tank, and tubular engine rock guard. Also new is the dry-sump, 353cc, '81 lC. 63..8mm. X,R350R witA gear- to be in the $10,000 range, but no confirmation is available from Honda. The Gold Wing Aspencade and Gold Wing Interstate versions have the same engine as the Limited Edition but with four 32mm CV carbs and fewer gadgets. The stripped version of the Gold Wing is not available. Semi standard-style 1985 Hondas include the V65 Sabre, the 699cc tariff-buster Sabre, the 696cc tariffbuster Nighthawk 5, 655cc Nighthawk 650, the 447cc Nighthawk 450 and the CBI25S. The VFIOOOR heads the sportsbike stable, replacing the VFIOOOF Interceptor. As detailed in Cycle News, October 10, the VFIOOOR differs from the Interceptor mainly in having gear-driven camshafts and a full fairing. Other sporting Hondas include the VF700F ta~iff-buster Interceptor and driven counterbalancer, a 56-inch wheelbase and a dry weight of 247 pounds compared to the XR600R's claimed dry weight of 267 pounds. Fuel capacity is 2.5 ~Ilons. Returning to the XR lineupare the 219cc XR250R, the 199cc XR200R, and the now-Pro-Link 99cc XRIOOR and 80cc XR80R. Both the 100 and the 80 have 27mm-stanchion-tube leading-axle forks with 5.5 inches of travel; the XRIOOR has 1.7 inches of rear travel, the XR80R, 4.3 inches of rear wheel travel. The fat-wheeled Z50R is billed as a good learner's bike for kids with its automatic-clutch and three-speed transmission. It's a virtually unchanged holdover from eight to 10 years ago.
