say we did our best, we tried, and face ourselves. We do not need the drug's lie that we are something we're not. Mr. jensen states that "an individual with a drug problem is just an individual with a problem. The drug itself is not responsible." A sad statement, because it is a cop-out. Drugs are, by their nature, mind and/or mood altering. They affect judgement, decision-making, and an individual's sense of responsibility. An individual with a problem compounds it when he adds drugs. To give a suicidal pt;rson a. weapon would be folly. Take away the drugs from a person with a problem (don't we all have at least one?) and you've taken away a loaded gun. Drugs take people away from the love of those around them and place them in a night of self·seeking, self-sufficient illusions. Perhaps Mr. jensen feels he has control over his drug use. He is lucky - for now. Let no one be encouraged by his good fortune to where they are similarly deceived. There is no place in racing, or in a world of people caring for others, for substances which deceive, which make an individual less him· or herself. I may be moralizing, Mr. jensen. But I've saved and assisted more lives than I can count because I believe in morals; because of them, I'll be on one of the turns at the next Sears Point race and many more to come. I ~ hope it will never be necessary to come to your aid, but if it is, you can be sure my thinking will be clear, and my judgement won't be impaired by WEST America's weekly motorcycle newspaper Sharon Claylon, Publisher Mike Klinger.
