CA, AUG. 31 Friday night motocross racing at the Police Athletic League track found more than 150 riders on hand to watch the Lane men - father Mike "Holeshot" and son" Holeshot J r." - take top honors in both their c1asse . Honda pilot "Hole hot" Lane, sponsored by Moto-X Fox, ProLOpipe and Santa Clara Honda, proved why he is currently leading in points in the Vet Master class in nonhern California when he swept the Vet Masters with two convincing start-lo-finish wins. No one even got close. Mike "Holeshot Jr." Lane started his raci ng career the week before with a first-time-racing/first-time win in one of the more popular and growing classes at the P.A.L. track - the Pee Wees. "HoleshotJr." came back with a repeat performance this week, winning the moto with a three-quarterlap lead, showing that training with Dad does make a difference. In Pro action, Honda pilot Jeff Pestana took the overall in the 125cc Pro class with a 1-3 score. Pestana won the first moto handily, followed by Yamaha riders Craig Christian and first-time Expert Ty Earl. The second moLO belonged to Yamaha/Support/Palo Alto Yamaha/ MOLO-X-Fox/Cancilla Chain Tensioners rider Tony Flores. After bike problem in the first moto, Flores and bike performed in top form in the second. Pestana, third behind Danny Bole's Honda, tried it all to take over the second spot and have a run after Flores, but Boles held him off. At the checker it was Flores, Bole, Pestana and Earl. Flores finished econd overall wi th a 5-1 score, followed by Earl (3-4) and Christian Historic racing action mini-posters! Honda pilot Ted Harry's wide open style of riding led to back-LO-back wins for a sweep in the 250cc Pro class. Fantastic dicing for the lead between Harry and RSD Racing/ Sierra/Simons/Turner Trainingsponsored Donny Anderson marked the first moLO. With the lead changing back and forth, the baule was settled when Harry drove past Anderon on the out ide of a corner on the la t lap and held on to the fini h. Fini hing behind Harry and Anderon were Rich My then ( uz) and Peninsula Honda's Phil Douglas. Harry was really fired up the second moLO, leading the pack off the line and out of the fir t corner. Although Harry had establi hed a comfortable led by the fourth lap, he continued to ride wide open to the end. Behind Harry, a tight battle for the follow-up po it ions was waged between Tony Ri hards, Douglas, My then and Anderson. Ander on pulled hi way up from a fifth-place start to second by the checkered flag, followed by Ri hardsand Douglas. Overall it was Harry, Ander on, Douglas, My then and Richards. Douglas proved you don't have LO have the latest trick equipment to win the Pro class. Mounted on a 1981 Maico 490 twin shocker that Douglas resurrected in his garage, Douglas swept the Open Pro class. The Maico works well on tight motocross tracks like P.A.L. because of its mellow powerband. • .. Results OPEN PRO; 1. Phil Douglas (Mai); 2. Greg Raub (yam); 3. Todd Ternan (Hon); 4.
