Harden solos to win D-38 Notorious Dawg Team Race By Diane Bell PLASTER CITY, CA; SEPT. 9 Husky-sponsored Scott Harden, riding a WR400, ran away with the win in the AMA District 38 Notorious Dawg Team Race. • Crowded:Junior winner Chris Carr and Roger Thompson appear to be riding the same bike as they come off tum four on the last lap. • 30 ambulances returned. As mentioned earlier, Hank SCOll was involved in the incident, although he did not go down. "My brakes had gone away, so I was coming into the corners really low and then skidding out toward the middle," said ScOll later. "Bubba was riding up high and I think Chandlet was drafting him. All of a sudden Doug came down real low underneath Bubba, and without brakes, there was nothing I could do. His handlebar hit me right above the knee." Goss, following right in Chandler's wake, apparently had no options as well. The delay allowed ScOll to fix his brake, and some riders nopped their rear tires. The track surface was not abrasive, so tire wear was not proving to be a problem for the fiel!!. Parker retook the lead on the restart, trailed by Graham, Shobert, Eklund, Pearson, Scot I, Poovey and Lance Jones. In the ensuing laps passes became more commonplace than sideways is to speedway. Using a variety of lines, Parker, Graham, Shobert and SCOll took their turns at the front of the pack. With five laps to go five riders were sti 11 in the thick of it. On lap 22 Pearson went from fifth to second, patting Graham on the shoulder as he went by on the outside of turn four. Coming off the final bend, it was a three-rider duel with SCOll appearing to have the edge midway through the corner. hobert got the drive, however, and Graham followed him across the line for second. Parker finished fourth, with Filice edging Pearson late in the race for sixth. For Pearson it was his first finish on a mile after several starts. "I just decided to go for it on the last lap and it worked," said Shobert. "There was a scary moment when Himk and I tangled just after the restart. He hit a rut and got pretty sideways. We did get prelty tangled. I would like to thank my mechanics Skip Eaken and Dennis Jones." "I felt under control and I was where I wanted to be. I followed Bubba around the corner, and was going to draft by him. However, Hank got underneath us, and then between us, and that screwed up my draft," said Graham. "Just two more horsepower and they never would have passed me," said ScOll. "I'm going to skip the Ascot races and spend two weeks on the dyno to get ready for the last two miles." SCOll was riding a bike loaned to him by his brother Gary, and the effort was also sponsored by KK Supply, Jack Sisemore, Jerry Branch and Barnes Wheels. • Results 25-LAP NATIONAl: 1. Bubba Shoben (Hon); 2. Ricky Grahem (Hon); 3. Henk Scan (H-D); 4. Scan Perl
