Americans sweep Trophee des Nations ~ 00 0') BYPflPfi WfflLfY VARBERG, SWEDEN, SEPT. 16 The U.S. Team hammered to its fourth Trophee des Nations win in as many years, scoring a decisive victory over the Swedish team, 16 points to 61. The American attack was led by Kawasaki's Jeff Ward. who handily won both motos, while Vamaha's Broc Glover, riding in place of injured David Bailey, carded a pair of seconds. Honda's Johnny O'Mara turned in a 3-8 ride, while Vamaha's Ricky Johnson rounded out the American effort in the 250cc MX event with a 7-9 performance. Honda's Bailey, who sustained an injury to his right wrist en route to the win by the Americans at the September 9 Motocross des Nations in Finland, decided to not risk further injury to the wrist after practicing on Thursday, September 13, and Glover was brought in to replace him. After Ward, Glover and O'Mara finished 1-2-3 in the first moto and Johnson pieced seventh, the U.S. held a commanding lead going into the final moto. Another 1-2 punch by Ward and Glover in moto two sewed up the win for the U. S. • Vamaha's Haken Carfqvist was the top scorer for the runner-up Swedish team, with Italy finishing third in the final tally with 13 points. Ron Crandall's Racing Association of Cycle Enthusiasts (R.A.C.E.) will begin its 11th season of high school motocross at Corona (California) Raceway this fall. Cobra Engineering makes RZ350 exhaust systems for F-1; FPP makes the pipe stampings but does not build the complete pipe, contrary to what we reported in lut week's RZ350 pipe comparison. Here's Honda's latest version of the RS250R, now available with optional 16-inch or 18-inch front wheel. A more powerful two-stroke, watercooled v-twin engine with reed-valve cylinders comes with Honda's ATAC variable-volume exhaust system and a horsepower rating of 69 bhp at 11750 rpm. The aluminum frame is all new. American Honda will sell a limited number of XR60Q din track racing engines, to be delivered during November. The company also plans to sell the 1985 version of the RS250 F-2 machine. The new RS250 is 8.8 pounds lighter than the 1984 version and makes five more horsepower. It has a new frame with an extruded aluminum main section between the steering head and the swing arm piVOl and revised Pro-Link suspension geometry as tested by former 250cc and 350cc World Champion Anton Mang earlier this year. The engine is now filled with Honda's ATAC variable volume exhaust system and the rear cylinder is reversed so both exhauslS point forward and both pipes exit from the bottom of the fairing.
