The U.S. team of Husky rider Brad Lackey (5-14), Bultaco's Jim Pomeroy (6-10), CZmounted Tony DiStefano (14 ·21) and , Kawasaki's Jimmy Weinert (25-31) finished second, four points ahead of the Soviet Union. American teams finished fourth in both World Trophy and Silver Vase competition in the International Six Days Trial held in Camerino, Italy. Americans winning gold medals in the event were Tom Penron, Jack Penton, earl Cranke, Dick Burleson, Malcolm Smith and Bill Ohl. Sweden's Anders Michanek was per· fection, scoring a 15-point tally to win the World Individual Speedway Championship at Gothenburg, Sweden. Second, four points back, was. multi-time World Champ Ivan Mauger of New Zealand. Husky rider Dan Turner won two classes at a B.O.S.S. motocross in Dixon, California. Turner won the 125 and 250cc Expert classes, riding Husqvarnas in each. Steve Bast won the California State Speedway Championship, taking the Bakersfield oval by storm for 15 points. Bill Cody, Larry Shaw and Jeff Sexton were knotted for second at I J points. Famed tennis hustler Bobby Riggs won a $25,000 bet with Eve! Knievel by riding a 125 Harley-Davidson from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Twin Falls, Idaho, to see Knievd's ill-fated Snake River jump. Rig~s had never rid· den a motorcycle before. In a combined Novice/Junior/Expert AMA Pro short track at southern California's Ascot Park, Novice Steve Eklund won. In an OMRRA road race in Portland, Oregon, Bruce Lind won both heats of the 125cc GP class ahead of Jay Burchell. In the 125ccSingieclass the winner was Paul Peiroli, followed by Diane Cox. Doug Garrison scored a double win in a TT scrambles event at Sprocketts Park in Bakersfield, California. Rid· ing Suzukis, Garrison won the 250 and 360cc Expert classes.
