CORO A, CA, AUG. 8 Ron Sheets was on a roll at Corona Raceway and nothing slowed him down as he rode three and won three on ROlaXpowered machinery. The Open Money baH mile was actuall y the culmination of Sheets' wrap of the competition. He was off the line on lOp and never looked back. jay Lewis was out second but was unable to do more than chase Sheets. Dan Kane went down on the second lap, unable 10 get back in ,the hunt and Marvin Honeycull was also a victim. Sbeets' second win was the Open Expert half mile and again be went wire to wire. james Steet hounded Sheets all the way but got caught by surprise on the white flag lap as Dan Kane got by him and went on to take second. Steet fared much belleron the short track where he again chased Sheets but this time he came from third, gelling around jerry Greer and then holding him 0(( for the place spot. jay Lewis and Bob Sanders had a good go in the Open Money short track. Off the line it was Lewis with an excellent start. It took SanderJi about two laps to get everything sorted out but when hedid he made a nice pass and was on his way. They finished in that order. The Dodge boys from Acton, California, are turning into a dynasty at Corona as they keep adding a few more family members each time they show up. Mounted on very spiffy Harleys or mint condition Indians, they never fai Ito pu t on a good show. The Open Novice half mile division one, had four riders with the name Dodge out of six that rode. At the drop of the flag it was Andy Dodge and his Harley out in front with Honda-mounted Glenn Turner second and Indian-mounted Eddie Dodge third. Eddie Dodge gO! by Turner on the second lap and after following Andy Dodge for two laps, decided to give the front running spot a go. He held the lead for two laps before shock or old age got to the Indian and it died on the back straight. Andy Dodge was more than happy to resume his front running position and as Turner setlled into second along came joe Dodge and his Indian 10 put the pressure on. With three laps to go Turner held his cool and kept his second with Andy Dodge first and joe Dodge third. Chris Dodge on a Triumph (black sheep of the family from Granada Hills) was fourth. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, AUG. 5 Jeff Roskelley was back in form as he swept all motos of the Pro and 500cc Expert classes at Kincaid Park. RoskeUey overcame a mid-season slump to re-dominate the local motocross scene in Anchorage. Kevin Schaub and Kelly Buller, who had taken over as the hotshoes, both had a disappointing day. Schaub saw his 14-moto win streak come to an end in the· 250cc Expert class and Buller had his Pro-class points lead taken over by Roskelley. Pro class action found Kawasaki Cycle Cache's Roskelley piloting his KX to the front in moto one. Roskelley went on to an uneventful win while usual front runner Buller could only manage a third. joe Good (Kaw) has been coming on strong lately and took a second. The second molO was a replay of the first as Roskelley jetted into the lead and took the win. This time Suzuki MOlOrcycle and Marine's :Jim Stewart snuck into second after a first molO seventh and held off Good and Butler. Kawasaki Cycle Cache's Butler has been Anchorage's premier 125cc Expert jockey, but Good put .his KX into the limelight this time by winning moto one and taking the overall. Butler took a fourth in the first moto but didn't make the start of molO two because of a broken bike. john Foote won the 250cc Expert overall on his Anchorage Cycle Sa~es' Yamaha to slOp Schaub's year-long win streak in that class. Foote won the second molO while jim McClain (Kaw), who had won the first moto and looked like he would also do it again but mechanical problems slowed him 10 fifth. The MOlOrcycle Shop sponsored Donny Russell took second overall in his first race as an Expert. The 500cc Experts watched Roskelley easily win both motos by long margins. Second place Louis Mass was half a lap behind while holding the others off on his Motorcycle Shop KTM. • Results BO NOV: ,. Andy Amaral< (Kaw); 2. Scott Stafford (Kaw); 3. Chris S_ard (Yam).
