Thompson, Yamamoto scoreat Huetter FT By Clay Light COEUR D' ALENE, 10, AUG. 30 Yamaha rider Lowell Thompson Jr., Honda-mounted Todd Sommers and Ron Yamamoto took Huetter three-eighth-mile flat track wins at the last race of the 1984 season. Thompson took wins in the 80cc Expert and 125cc A mains with Sommers getting the 500cc and Open A main laurels. The last three races of the season in the evening's program saw Yamamoto triple with 500cc Open Expert and Pop Triber Memorial race wins. Thompson tackled the80cc Experts, bauling to the wire with class dena'minatorTroy Hedge(Yam). Thompson, in a rare appearance, had little trouble taking the close win over Hedge. Both riders came back on Yamaha water-pumpers to lead a full field of 125s. Billy Lenz (Hon) joined the front runners and made up iI three-way swapfest for first. Thompson held the duo off for his double demolition award. Lenz took second and. Hedge third. Yamamoto, Tony Cruickshank, Arney Wick, Richie Haymal.l (Hon 600) and Rod Ginn (Hon) led the opening laps of the final Expert main, the Open class, of the season in the Idaho panhandle. Yamamoto rode in a similar fashion of what took him across the line first at last week's Idaho mile. Cruickshank and Wick dueled as they have many, many times and finished 2-3. Yamamoto had one final task - a task never previously accomplished, a win in the 20-lap, 22-rider Pop Triber Memorial. Results OPEN EX: 1. Ron Vamamoto (Hon): 2. Tony Cruicl
