Treu continued his strong showings to post a new elapsed time record of 7.17 seconds on his wa y to victory. ]n the opening round of Top Fuel, Trett, the top qualifier, had a bye run. Sonny Michalowski soloed in his run after Ron Lioto broke and didn't make the start. Bruce Cole also had a solo pass after Bob Malloy had his Kawasaki break. The final run saw Eraldo Ferracci grab an easy win after the transmission in Steve Miles' bike broke. Trett saved his strongest run for Michalowski and his fuel injected Harley-Davidson single. Treu took his Kawasaki fuelerdown thequaner mile at 7.177 seconds at 193.55 mph and left Michalowski in the dust. In the other semi, Ferracci had an easy time of things when Cole's bike quit running. Ferracci staged his Fast by Ferracci Honda. turbo for the final against Trett's Kawasaki. Trett's 7.22 elapsed time backed up his 7.17 for the record. His top speed was 193.96. Ferracci experienced problems and could only turn in a slowing 10.79 second run in losing. Bob Carpenter, on the Vazar Power Systems-sponsored Suzuki, was the rider to beat in Pro Stock. The first elimination round saw Number One plate holder Don Plesser lose out to Carpenter. Rich Heater downed the red·lighting Gary Campbell and Earl Timmons finished off the round by coasting through his run after Jim Beatty red-lighted on the start. Carpenter got his ticket to the final tbe easy way with a solo run in the first semi. The second semi saw the closest run of the day as Timmons and Heater turned identical times at 8.81 seconds. Timmons had a slight edge in top speed and grabbed the win with a 148.76 to Heater's 146.78. The Kawasaki versus Suzuki battle in the final belonged to Carpenter with a near record 8.574/151.26 blast to ea;;ily top the 9.635/108.56 pass turned in by Timmons and hiS Kawasaki. .. --- Last Chance This Year to see Fred Merkel vs. Wes Cooley TICKET INFORIIATION BUDWEISER KERKER 100 RACE WEEKEND Once again the Thriner comes back to Willow Springs International Raceway.
