une and he easily swept the Scratch side of the program at john LaDouceur's Inland Motorcycle Speedway. Schwartz, who won four of his six races on the warm night, drew the pole in the main, took the gate and simply ran away from the pack. Dubb Ferrell, alsoaboardajawa, was second from the gate trailed by Mike Faria and Brad Oxley. Oxley took Faria for third coming out of turn two but Faria quickly relegated him to the back as they clo ed out the first circuit. As Schwartz ran away it became war for second and third. Faria took Ferrell with turn-two inside pass on the third revolution and then Oxley losed in. Faria finally took second with Oxley edging by Ferrell at the eckered for third. The rider who won the Hahdicap main had one request: "You can leave my name out of Cycle News as long as you mention all of my sponors." Tim McCasland put the Gene hurman Weslake into the lead on the start over Sterling Cogar and Gene Woods. Finch jams to nior win By Scott O.loisio CORONA, CA, JULY 21 . Thirteen-year-old Jessee Finch of Costa Mesa scored an impeccable IS-.point maximum to capture to first of three qualifi- ers for the 1984 Junior Speedway National at Ken Maely's Speedway Research track on Saturday afternoon. Finch, who is .the-defending National junior Champion, took his first ride of the afternoon in event six. There he trailed his younger brother Jayme until turn four on the first cirCuit but once he slipped by, the race was as good as over. For Finch (Speedway Magazine/Oakley/ Arai/House of. Suzuki Triumph/Mom & Dad/Sam Ennolenko) it was just the start of what was to come all day long. His second appearance ended as a half straightaway win over Dave Busby and his third ride was a total runaway to win over Ami Alvarez and Gene Topping. At the same time as Finch was rolling. up vicloOry after· , victory~ lihh Geweel<.lli, wild fiJ\istfetl . 1 second in last year's National, was. doing the same. So was former World BMX Champion Billy Felts. All three were perfect after three rounds. The first showdown of the day involved Felts and Gewecke was in heat 24. It proved to be no real showdown, though, a Oewecke got the gate and the checkered by half a straight. The following heat matched Finch with Trinon Cuello aboard his cut-down 260c Welake. Finch got the gate with Cirello out second. Cirello tayed close until he went down in tum Three allowing Finch to waltz to his fourth win on the day and set up tfie second showdown of the afternoon - Finch vs. Gewecke in event 32. Again it proved to be no showdown as Finch took the wire-to-wire win by six lengths over Gewecke. It seemed to be in the bag and Finch had only one more ride - that one against Felts and Kelcey Gordon in event 38. Finch got the gate only to have Felts surprise everyone when he blasted by in turn four on the first revolution, Finch then retook the point po ition in turn three on the next circuit. Felts stayed close, trying to get by, but the champ managed to take a three-length victory. It was the first step for Fincll to hold onto his Junior crown. ArvJre•• TM Covers it al/! Orlandi takes eighth Scratch at Baylands By W.H. Spencer FREMO T, CA, JULY 12 Paul Orlandi capped a hot night by the bay winning his eighth Scratch main of the year in the northern lands with an excellent ride, holding 0(( Mike Delacy. Delacy then came up the winner with a brilliant Handicap main move that took that win from Duane Yarrow. Teenager Lenie Ivarson has been visiting the West Coast from her native Sweden where she rides speedway, and joined the Division Three ranks where she held 0(( the boys for a lap then seemed to have second set until she got in a tangle with Bill Herman! and came out the loser with a broken chain. Mark Day took the win and gained some yardage for his effons. In the Handicap main, Duane Yarrow came 0(( the 40 yard line and made a move around Kid Curry and Greg Martz. just when Yarrow appeared to be securely in the lead, Mike Delacy went around the whole field to take the lead and the win on his "1 Bicycle Shop/Don Foss/OilzalllBob Agness Leathers Special. Yarrow bad to settle for second over Pat Linn, Curry, and Paul Orlan· di. While Orlandi might have got himself stuck in the Handicap, he picked the number one golfball for the Scratch, then set sail from the gate. Delacy figured he was on a roll but could never get a wheel in the right place. Rocky Robinson doubled in the ongoing match race series taking two of three from teammate Steve Martin on the MPE specials. • Results SCRATCH MAIN: 1 . Poul Orlondi; 2. Mike O8locy: 3. Pot Uno; 4.
