Cagiva rider Maddii, bouyed by the fact that KTM's Van der Ven was still in pain from a hand injury sustained in a crash in the Swiss GP two weeks prior, won each moto with a substantial lead. Maddii holds an eight-· point margin, 180 to 172, over Van der Ven with five rounds to go. Davey Strijbos, after a crash in a recent stadium MX left him with a broken bone in his right ankle, was a non-starter. Strijbos, prior to his accident, had been hot in the battle for third in the point standings. On the start of moto one, Maddii immediately pulled away from the rest of the field by nearly thrt'e seconds a lap and kept this pace up until the halfway mark. From there, hecoa ted home. Former ISDE rider Giuseppi Andreani, on a works ApriJia, led Fabrizio Pirovano and Michel Fanton in a battle for second.
