Neasham nixes Texas RR By Howard Davies COLLEGE STATION, TX, JUNE 16-17 . Pat Kelly surprised everyone by taking the lead from Tony Neasham on lap two of the Open Production class final. .. 42 Kelly showed the fans how hard a stock GSllOO Suzuki can run, as he sped to a second-place finish. It wasn't until the fourth lap that Neasham, on his inscrutably-prepped Honda, finally set Kelly up for a pass in the infamous horseshoe of Texas World Speedway. For six of the eight laps, the two riders had the spectalors throughout the infield on their feet. Neasham finished first, with Kelly • in second and Meril Moen. on a Kawasaki, placing third. Neasham's only comment on the close race was "Pat is one helluva good rider." Moen's ride to third came after a charge from the back of the pack, due to a poor start. Results ASUPER EX: 1. Entrance for. the show competi- Although Mike Hale always puts on an excellent ride and finishes in the top three, he put in his first "perfect" night with four for four at Mike Kidd's Hillside in Boyd. The Mini Pro was Hale's first win of the night as the kids mounted minibikes for the new version of the trophy dash. The dash is open to all comers, but restricted to 85cc equipment or less and run for cash on the TT track. Hale, on Texas Honda-Yamaha! Gemco Pipes-sponsored Yamahas, led wire-to-wire to win both the 80cc Senior and the 125'cc short track mains. SCOll Williams pushed Hale all the way in the 80cc class to finish a close second. Trace Polson, in a comefrom-behind ride, took second in the I 25cc class ahead of Chad McCracken and Clay Carroll. Clayton Hull got the holeshot in the 80cc Senior "IT main, followed by Polson, Andy Embry and Hale. Embry and Hale both passed Polson in the right hand turn, then Hale went to the inside to pass Embry coming out of turn four. That didn't last, though, as Embry took second place back in the Winston turn then got around Hull for the lead in the number-four corner of the second lap. Hale moved past Hull comingoff the high jump on lap three then moved in on Embry again in the Winston turn on lap five to take over the lead and han~ on for his fourth win of the night. Embry finished in second place and Hull in third. Results SHORT TRACK 50: 1. ToddWev(Yom); 2. Joe Gilbert Jr. (Yeml; 3. Jeson Adcock (Yam). 80 SR: I. Mike Hele (yem); 2. Scott Williams (Hont; 3. Win number six for ,Gray at Cyc'eland SpeedwayST By David James CHICO, CA, jU E 23 Kenny Gray led from start to finish in the 250cc Expert and Open Money main events at Moural and Associates Cycleland Speedway. Gray extended his winning streak to six, and he now leads the points race for the District 36 number-one black plate. ''I'll do anything to win," said Gray after the 10-lap main event. The Open Money race was the most exciting of the evening. At the stan, Honda-mounted Bill Rogers was caught rolling and was sent to the. back row. When the green flag dropped, Yamaha's Dave Kerr got the jump into the first turn with Gray on the outside. Exiting two, Gray powered his jMI/Smith Painting! john Mason-Honda past his teammate Kerr. Behind Kerr was Hondamounted Mike Gresham and Kawasaki's Mark Corsetti. When Kerr got off the groove coming out of four, Gresham and Corsetti took advantage. With the racers single file, it was Gray, Gresham, Corsetti and Kerr. Gray had opened up a lead by the halfway pOint, but Gresham tried everything he had to close the gap as· well as keeping the fast Corsetti off his back. On lap seven, Mike got a lillie too aggressive going into turn three, and at this point in the race, the track surface had only one line. This was the blue groove that formed. When Gresham pushed his Honda to the limit, he drifted to the slippery stuff and crashed, and it was almost another pile up. When the checkered flag was shown, Gray lifted his fist in excitement for his sixth win in a row. Butler and Schaub share Alaska wins By M.R. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, JUNE 10 Kelly Butler ran away with the 125cc Expert and Pro wins at Kincaid Park while iron man Kevin Schaub rode to first in the 250cc Experts, second in the Pro and third in the I25cc Expens today. jeff Roskelley's bad luck carried over from the Memorial Day State Championship as he was only able to win one moto out of the two classes he entered. Butler rode his Kawasaki Cycle Cache KX to flawless wins in the large 125cc Expert class. He had to compete with not only other racers, but the track itself. Even with constant watering, the Alaskan midnight sun dried the track until the bumps and dust practically swallowed racers. Mechanical difficulties claimed a lot of racers. One of the unlucky individuals was Anchorage Cycle Sales' Ralph Blanchard. Blanchard was running at the from of the pack until his motor died. He was unable to get it ready for moto two. This' dropped him from only three points behind series second place holder joe Good to a distant fouFlh. The Motorcycle Shop-sponsored Good had a decent day with a 3-2 score. Butler carried his winning style over the the Pro class where teammate Roskelley has been dominating
