, . , . TErt 13TH ANNUAL YEARS AGO ...... Holland's Gerrit Wolsink scored a 2I overall win in the U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross at Carlsbad Raceway. Wolsink finished the first mota behind teammate Roger DeCoster, then literally canwheeled across the finish line in the second maLO LO beat Husky's Heikki Mikkola. DeCoster had a third in the second mota to edge Mikkola (fourth in moto one) out of second overall. Pierre Karsmakers (Yam) was top "AMA licensee" with a 6-4 firth overall. In the 250cc Support class, Rich Eierstedt took the win on a facLOry Honda after bauling with Maico rIder Billy Payne. CAMEl PRO SERIES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JULY 21, 22, 1984 LAGUNASECA RACEWAY Harley- Davidson's Gary Scoll won the Castle Rpck, Washington, TT National, closing up the baule for number one when points leader Kenny Roberts crashed out of contention. Second and third went to Triumph riders Chuck Joyner and Pat Marinacci. Eight of the top 12 finishers rode Triumphs. Andy Kirker became the third rider in hisLOry to win a D-37 desert race overall on a 175cc bike, when he LOok the Desert Barons' .. Bare-On" Hare Scrambles. Art Knapp finished second on a big Husky, while Amateur Dwayne Carter was third overall on a four-stroke. The race's title was in reference LO a little side contest; a Saturday night streak-out. Top club honors in that event allegedly went LO the Rovers. Mike Faria went from fourth LO first on the last lap of the 360cc Expert main event in a short track at Petaluma, California. Faria later won the 250cc Expert main event. / In a rare week without a Bast at the top of the heap, Danny "Berzerko" Becker won three of a possible four Scratch main events in southern California speedway. Dubb Ferrell won the other one. Jim Turner won two classes at a CMC motocross at Sears Point in northern California. Turner rode a Bultaco to beat Dan Leet (Mai) and Russ Powell (Hon) in the 250cc Experts, and was on similar machinery when he defeated Leet and Henry HaIback (Mai) in the Opens. It was a Spanish sweep of the 250cc Expert class at a D-37 scrambles at Elsinore Raceway, hosted by the San Bernardino M.C. Steve Fortune won the event while fellow BulLaco rider Bruce Reynolds was second and Montesa pilot Dan McWhorter third.
