Robertson roosts SadoMX SACRAMENTO, CA, JUNE 5 Jimmy "Kamakazi" Robertson survived the battle of the 250cc Pros for the overall at the Friday night stadium motocross races at Sacramento Raceway Park while Rodney Harriger took the I25cc Pro title. RC Suzuki-mounted Robertson shot out in the lead of the first moto and stayed there for the win. HiPoint/Honda of Sacramento-sp<>nsoredjoe Wright was moving through the pack until a bunch of broken spokes on the rear wheel forced a DNF. Megacycle Honda-mounted Curtis Dias secured second ahead of Honda-mounted john McCapes. Robertson shot out the early lead in moto two but then came joe "In Flight" Wright who looked like the winged warrior as he new through the pack and into first where he stayed to the checkered. Robertson's second was good for the overall. Dias combined his first-moto second with a third final time out for second overall. Harriger put his Hi-Point/Kawasaki in first each moto of the I25cc Pros for the overall while Kraus Racing/ Reno Kawasaki-sponsored MikeTorres combined two seconds for second overall money. Pritchard wasn't as consistent as the day before, but his score of 48/2 was still good enough to hang on to third overall. Dixon had the fifth best score on Sunday with 71 but was able to nab fourth by two points over Mark Oldar. Oldar, on his Equipo Bultaco, carded 55/5 to have one of the best come from behind rides. Scott Annand (Bay Area Cycle Centre) scored his last win as an Amateur, but it was no easy task_ Saturday was very good for Annand and very bad for his main competition Tim Walk~ (Crook Cycle WestlDuralube/Hyper Products/Section One). Walker had a terrible first loop fiving four section in a row at the starl. At the end of the day Annand led by 16 points followed by Walker, then Clive Hannon two back for third. Walker led the scoring on day two with 38, but Annand was eight points back good enough for first overall. Walker held on to second. Third on Sunday and third overall was Clive Hannon. Billy Hunter was five points behind Mark Earl on Saturday in the Novices. Hunter easily made up the difference on Sunday to win by three. Earl rode a third of his first loop and all of his last with the lower triple clamps broken on his Bultaco. Earl, who drove from Arizona to compete, still scored well enough to place second. Phil Smith out-scored everybody on Sunday to come in third. Mark Von Aldenbruck was the surprize winner in the Beginners. The first-timer shows a lot of talent and will be the rider to watch in the future as he won by three points. Greg Bush placed second: He led on the first day, but he lost the edge when Von Aldenbrock figured out the tricks of going slow. Big Bear resident Tim Walker piloted his Honda to third place. • I.auxen remains undefeated, wins Big Bear two-day trials By Tim Walker BIG BEAR, CA, JUNE 2-3 This year marked the 18th annual Big Bear two-day held in the Holcomb Valley area. Southern California Trials Association president Duane Stone spearheaded the organizing of this event which marks the halfway point of the year_ Three loops on Saturday and two more on Sunday gave the riders plenty of riding time. Some competitors actually did ride through the trees after missing loop markings on Saturday. Saturday's sections proved much harder and time consuming than Sunday. Surviving the two days and winning the Expert class was Cagiva-mounted Mike Lauxen. Hi:Point-~ponsoredLauxen easily out-dabbed the other Experts. Lauxen has won every event he has entered in this year. On Saturday Lauxen started out hot with 57 points and 12 cleans. -Matt Pritchard's four. Six marks back for fourth was Dan Dixon (section one). Sunday looked like it wasn't going to be Lauxen's day. While riding the loop his chain jumped off, then in the next section; while having a clean ride, it came off again, scoring a five. At this poim, he was not in happy spirits. After finally sorting out his machine he picked up the pace to • ~OR"3 29/~, easily winning the over- • Kemp takes anotherCRC Enduro By Mike Klinger RAND, CA, JUNE 3 Both Randy Kemp and Scott Jacobsen are really making winning the California Racing Club enduros a habit. The Bobcat win was Kemp's second in a row and jacobsen is always among the one-loop leaders. Duralube and the Banzai Brothers sponsored the Bobcat and they awarded some fine contingency prizes. Mark "Cuddles" Wiechmann received the hard luck award at the Bobcat, missing the. overall win by only three seconds, scoring 1.63 to Kemp's 1.60. jacobsen turned in an' unbelievable ride, losing just one second over the 32-mile first loop. Loop one sent the over 300 riders entered west through the Rand Mountains directly into the flatlands. The very first check was easy to zero but a 30 mph special test section kept the riders driving hard and many B riders had difficulty staying on time. Among the top finishers for loop one, it was again a minicycle battle. jacobsen, :John- Lucas, Marc- Dion and-Scott Bristol all zeroed the course. Darnell Gustafson placed fifth overall and first 250cc B-Woman, losing 1.37 points. Bill Dailey finally reached the top of the Beginners. A 12 mph section was noted on the route sheet right off the bat on loop two. A nasty, rocky canyon uphill started off the little adventure on what was like a long goat trail. Miles of long, rocky ledges made the second loop outstanding. There was not a checkpoint in this section and the 12 mph speed gave every rider time to think about the downright enjoyment of riding enduros. After bombing through wide open desert, riders approached the special test, 36 mph over what was like supercross terrain. Out of the nine checkpoints involved, this tie-breaker checkpoint was where the riders lost their points and it separated the winner from the also rans. After a brief reset the hustle was on to the finish. Finishing the event 15 minutes early was a real chore. The course wound around the mountain peaks on a narrow ledge trail and dropped down a virgin canyon to the final checkpoinl. What a ride! Only five riders lost one point over the 75-mile course. Following Kemp and Wiechmann were Open A-Veteran Heath Hibbard, 200cc A-Veteran Mark Cook and 200cc ace, Todd johnson. Sixty riders ended up with a score of two with Robert Burtis, Robert Leach, jerry Russell and james Bortree finishing up the top 10 comperi tors overall. The best B score for the day was turned in by Open winner Lee Wolfe who also topped the Open B division. Leonard Holdridge scored a 3.164 to win the Open Cclass and also turned in the best score of any C rider. Gus Paull picked up his second win in a row by outlasting the other Open A Super Seniors. Shauna Hopkin~ lost 5.261 ove.r the two loops for the lOp score in the 200cc A Woman class. Results OVERALL: ,. Rendy Kemp; 2. Mark Wiechmem; 3. Heeth Hibberd. 200 AA-V: 1. Merk Cook; 2.
