All righu reserved, I, 2 ON THE FRONT PAGE: Honda's XR200RE is in its element in tight woods, A full test of the red rooster begins on p. 24. Photo by Ron Lawson. Desert use Yamaha advocates slow and clean Regarding the RZ350 article, in your June20 issue, John Ulrich did a di service LO Cycle News. IL would be one thing to pre5ent a set of facts, but it borders on social repugnance when he purposefully makes dirtier air, EPA be damned, Yamaha believes in cleaner air and they have cleaned up their bikes in all fairness to others who share the air with us. It's no fun to de-tune an RZ and it's no fun to not sell the RZ in California, but that's the law of the land, even if John Ulrich makes 6un of it and goes ahead with omething that's against the law. Clean up yOUT act, John, Don't try to make it look good to be poorly adjusted to your environment. LEO LAKE Engineering Division Yamaha Motor Corp, USA Cypress, CA Does this mean you drive 55 mph on the freeway? ... Editor. G.K. Scott stands his ground The reason I write so many letters is because I love motorcycling, Anytime I see or read something I think does damage to the port, I react. Not always just with your publication, but also with others. I also write government o£ficials and donate money LO motorcyclists' causes. Motorcycling is meant. only to be enjoyed, In your case it is also work, I LOtally enjoy riding and racing my motorcycles, Either on or off the roads, Every time some Bozo tells me I'm crazy or I'm a menace, I stand my ground, There are plenty of these Bozos out there, We don't need these type of Bozos working in the motorcycling publication business, G.K. SCOTT Newbury Park, CA Urn, let's see now: anybody who thinks you're crazy is a Bozo, and you encounter many such Bozos, A h, well, we've always looked good in red hair and polka dots... Editor, No more G.K. Scott I'm sick and tired of this guy G,K. ScOll {rom ewbury Park badmouthing Cycle News and John Ulrich, I respect Cycle News for letting this airhead voice his opinion but this guy is starting to make me crazy, If Wrangler reports the points to you wrong, how are you supposed to print them right? John Ulrich is a terrific journalist. His articles are great. I loved the ones lately on Risk. If this guy G;K, Scott is unhappy with Cycle News I think he should start reading the Enquirer - it would fit his bummed-out attitude, Just recently I had to get another edition of your great paper sent to my home because m,y son and I were almost having a war every Thursday to see who gets to read Cycle News first. MICHAEL D, CURTIS JOEY P, CURTIS Palmdale, CA G.K. Scott is insulting I am writing this in regards to one G.x. Scott insulting John Ulrich for his ed.iLOrial viewpoints. To call Cycle News a rag since John ULrich joined its staff is ridiculous! John has spent the past 15 years riding motorcycles and the past 10 racing them and obviously knows what he's talking abouL I myself, and I'm sure I'm not alone when I say this, think John Ulrich is one of the best motorcycle journalists around, I myself enjoyed Mr, Ulrich's comparison he did on Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer and I'm sure most of Cycle News' readers did, In my opinion, Mr. Scott not only owes Cycle News an apology but owes one to John Ulrich as well! By the way, John's recent articles on Risk and Wayne Montoya were great! Keep up the good work and gas it up! I hope Eddie Lawson wins the championship. Go Eddie! SAMUEL P, BURNS AMA 127R Whituer, CA This letter is in response to a Mr. Fitzpatrick who wrote a letter in your June 13 issue, The Lucerne Area is for everyone. ot just for you or just for racers but for everyone. SCORE had to apply for a permit one year in advance. If you didn't want to be with racers then you should have checked with the BLM. Almost ran off the road more than once? I, too, traveled this road, I was never run off the road. It is a one-lane road; both drivers have to take to the edge or you will have a head on call ision. I never 'had any problems with drivers not giving me my half of the road, Another safety aspect you talked , a bou t in your letter was a bou tracers "blasting" across the desert, dry lakes, and roads, If you stay off the marked course (marked with f10urescent orange ribbon and cards. Hard to miss.) they won't and can't bother you, These people are professional drivers and riders. They know what they are doing. Do you? RICK JACKSON Taft, CA 24-hour thanks We of Team Honda of Gardena would like to thank OUT sponsors for their help and support at the recent 24-Hour West.
