In the 250cc Pro race, Dodd Dyson and Johnny Johnson fought it out, with Dyson taking the win. Willie McCoy was the fastest Amateur at the track, winning both the 250cc and Open classes. All the riders were pumped, ready for the stan of the Texas 100'. One pit stop would be required, other than that, it was flying sideways for the 42-mile race. (The Devils Bowl track is slightly less than a half-mile). When staner Phil Dyson dropped the flag, Kenny Toben took the lead, with Shan Stovall in second. A ho t of others followed, with Sweet in sixth. Things seuled down to some fast trackin', until Tolbert stopped for his pit and gasoline, near lap 40. Sweet was next in line to inherit the lead, which changed nearly every lap. When things seuled back in, rider charged hard for new positions. By lap 90, gas was low and tires were worn, but the riders were still charging. Thefi rst casualty was David Brown, who came in with the seat off his Honda. Then Tolben burnt an ignition. Stoval was f1ext with part of his exhaust missing, and Jeff Harder lost his brakes. Dyson came into the pits three times, but charged hard to make up the lost time. Greg Duvall and John Gladwill battled throughout the entire race, with Duvall finally seuling for fifth behind Gladwill. Sweet was the uJti rna te victor, just ahead of Stovall. Results '100' FINAL: 1. Sammy Sweet; 2. Shan Stovall; 3. Dodd Dyson; 4. John Gladwill; 5. Greg Duvall; 6. Kenny Tolbert; 7. Jeff Ha'-. Martin fakes two at Hilltoppers GP By Jeannette Fisher ROSARITO BEACH, MEXICO MAY 13 Wayne Martin of East West M.e., rode his Husky to two wins in the Hill toppers M.e. 115-mile Grand Prix in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. Martin took home the overall win in the Rosarito GP and the Grand Sport Tire Pro race. With the Open Experts on the front row, Martin took an early lead, with the rest of the pack following. Martin went on to build up such a lead that second place never had a chance of catching him. Sixteen-year-old Shannon Shamblin followed Martin in to take second. What was so remarkable was that Shamblin did it with a 125. Third overall, a far distance behind Shamblin, went to Greg Fountain of Orange County Cycle on a 250. With the top 125, 250, and Open bikes in the top three finishers the overall 80cc winner was quite a bit further down the pack. The overall trophy went to John Zack Jr. Lance Leberknight, Brandon Remeriz, and Brad Chuck also went the entire way on 80s. The women's class showed four entrants, three of them finished and it was East West's Toni Marcdante who led the wayan a 125 Yamaha. The Grand Sport Tire-sponsored Pro race followed the three-hour grand prix. Eight Pros lined up for the start and the course was shortened to approximately IS miles and was run a total of four laps. The end of lap one showed Martin again in the lead. Leonard Johnson and Larry Fife led the pursuit. As the leaders rounded lap two Martin led the way with Fife hot on his trail; the rest of the pack spread out. On lap three Martin continued to hold off Fife while Gordan Ward Jr. moved way up from behind for third. Mike Sixbery followed in fourth. J oh nson had two fla ts bu t went out to finish the last lap. As the roar of bikes wa heard in the distance the checkered flag was readied for the overall winner. Edge A CHORAGE, AK, MAY 13 The saga continued this Sunday at Kincaid Park as Jeff Roskelley continued to win by sweeping the Pro and 500cc Expert classes. Roskelley's streak is now at 14 motos. The record of 21 straight motos is held by three-time Alaska State Champion Chris Pauerson. The Pros hit the first turn of mota one with Kawasaki Cycle Cache's Roskelley out front. Teammate Kelly Butler put in a good effort but was hard pressed to even keep Roskelley in sight. The second maLO SLart was a replay of the first, with Roskelley in first, trailed by Butler. However, Butler took advantage of a Roskelley bobble to take over the lead. Butler even SLarted to stretch out his lead, but a crash gave first, and the win, back to RoskeJley. Butler was able to regain and hold on to second. Butler's little brother, Robb, is quickly earning his own reputation as a fast rider. Butler easily won the SOcc Expert class and came in second in the 105cc class. Father Rich made it a family aHair and pulled in a sevemh place finish in the 200cc threewheeler class. As always, the largest racer turnout of the day was in the action-packed 125cc Novice class. Next to the Pro and Expert classes, these Novices attract the most attention, with crashes and pile-ups at every corner. One racer has been avoiding the 125cc Novice syndrome to win every race he's entered this year. Kirk Schaub (Kaw), in his first year on 125s, has been showing great potential and will soon be moving up w the Expert class. Kelly Butler easily won the 125cc Expert class, leaving the battle behind him over second place. In mow one, the battle was between Kevin Schaub (Han) and Anchorage Cycle Salessponsored Ralph Blanchard, with Schaub coming out in second. The next mota saw Schaub crash, leaving Blanchard with second. Schaub limped in for seventh. Schaub did better in the 2SOcc Expert class, coming away with wins in both mows. The 500cc Experts watched Roskelley jet into unchallenged leads in both motos to win the overall. • Results MINI NOV; ,. Andy Amaralt IKawl; 2. Chris Ste· ward (Yaml; 3. Scon Stafford (Kaw).
