The old way I'm glad someone else thinks the way I do. Thanks to Mr. G.K. ScOll for his comments about Grand National racing. To make things simple and interesting, how about going with the same formula of 750cc twin-cylinder road racers, for which there would be threecompetitjvemakes. That would make it very similar to the old way, the best all-around racer; i.e. Gene Romero, Dick Mann and Gary Nixon. Please, AMA - listen to the fans, because we pay the bills! Assistant Terry Dailey, Credit Manager I read with interest your Risk colwnn concerning Wayne Montoya in the june 6th issue. The legal theory you touch on is essentially correct. I advanced the same approach in successfully representing john Glover versus Sears Point following his impact with a deer in tum nine while on hjs TZ250. A rider signs a release prior to racing, but the rider is only going to be held to be releasing those rights that attach to risks he reasonably expects to be facing. Secondly, he never releases his rights to hazards that are negligently created by the track itself. The track knew about the deer (a death between turns seven and eight plus a couple of prior injury incidents) and a solution existed to the problem. Witness Vance Breese, and his deer flag and "puma piss" solution to the problem. By analogy Laguna knew all the same things, i.e. they knew that a rider might suUer significant enhanced injury crashing in that corner unless they reshaped or moved some dirt. A simple (and relatively cheap) solution involving nothing more than a few hours with a 0-9 tractor. Circulation Rheba Smith, Manager Michelle Hanna. Roone Arledge, Producer, ABC Wide World of Sports, 1330 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019, asking them to get in touch with Kenny Roberts. Who knows - we might even get more races put on their show. MIKE STEWART Reno, NV ABC has used Roberts as a color commentator before, but the event was the Carlsbad USGP of Motocross, not exactly KR's specialty from a competitor'S point of view. We'd like to see Roberts doing the color for events like the San Jose Mile and The Superbikers, and someone with an MX background, like Mike Bell, Jimmy Weinert or Jeff Smith doing events like Carlsbad... Editor. Big brother I was very disappointed in your coverage of the World Mini Grand Prix at Saddleback Park. My big brother Eric Hawes won the Pee Wee Modified class on his Y-Zinger and also finished second in the Pee Wee Stock class yet he was completely left out of the results list. This meant a lot to him as this is his last season in the Pee Wees as he will be nine next january. RYAN HAWES Carlsbad, CA Over The Hill Gang King Kenny on ABC If you are over 30 and enjoy motocross and GPs, you are eligible to sta~t pUlling the fun back in your raang. We race twice a month at various tracks. We haveourown practice and races, points system and trophies. We have mini series', and at the end of th~ year, four-foot trophies. RUNOVER RON R YER President, OTHG SP, M'Y AWW dToppiQg.a line.to•• • .•.• _. _. _• . • Since Kenny Roberts has retired from dirt track racing, I would very much enjoy seeing Kenny working for ABC as their expert commentator on all motorcycle events. For the past few years ABC has been using Sam Posey as their expert commentator on motorcycle events, and to my knowledge, he has never raced a motorcycle in any kind of National event. He does know Formula and Indy cars, but as a color commentator on motorcycle events, he only explains to us what someone else explained to him. Photo by Mike Pona. the_. _ I •• I You once again made a mistake in the overa.ll points standings of the InsportlWrangler Supercross Series. You show Broc Glover in sixth place after the Pasadena event. You also show Mark Barnell is now in seventh, when in fact these two riders are both tied for sixth, 284 points apiece, not 284 to 283. Get on the ball and get it right. Cycle News should spend more time on getting things straight and less time trying to prove Eddie Lawson is a beller racer than Freddie Spencer! G.K. SCOTT Newbury Park, CA We received all our points information directly from Insport. Insport admittedly made a mistake when adding up Barnett's points after the Orlando SUPeTcross. He should have had 256 points, not 257. So, the point standings are correct after Pasadena. And, what do Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer have to do with Supercross point standingsr... Editor. John Ulrich is controversial Since john Ulrich came to Cycle News recently, this newspaper has become a rag. It's time to put an end to this stupid rivalry Cycle News is trying to advocate between Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer. john Ulrich is to be held completely responsible for it. Ulrich is the one all.ow.ing it to continue by repeatedly pnntmg letters and comments in Cycle News. To allow a controversy to start and then grow is unexcusable(sic). WeekIy, Cycle News adds more wood to the fire, instead of water. The best thing about Cycle News is that it fits perfectly under my motorcycles while changing their oil. G.K.SCOTT Newbury Park, CA Weekly, Mr. Scott sends Cycle News one, sometimes two letters on a wide range of topics.
