Harley bombs: The U.S. govern!'1ent just ordered 200.000 casmgs for 500-pound bombs from Harley-Davidson, which manufacturers ~he casings at its York, Pennsylvania factory. The contract is worth $38 million. With his win in the Harrington Half Mile, Terry Poovey moved from 12th position in the Camel Pro Series points standings to eighth. Honda's Ricky Graham stretched his points lead to 105 over Harley-Davidson's Randy Goss, who has 89. Third through fifth spots are held by Ted Boody (80), Scott Parker (78) and Bubba Shobert, who failed to qualify at Harrington and still has 74. Former 500cc Motocross World Cha.mpion Brad Lackey is holding an Intense motocross training camp at Sand Hill Ranch in Brent_wood, California on June 26 through 29. Working with training expert Dean Miller, Lackey will instruct riders in training and riding, nutrition, taping to prevent injuries, public relations and preparation of press kits. Dennis Manning's Harley-Davidson-powered streamliner ''Tenacious" is being readied for an attempt on the motorcycle land speed record in September in Nevada. "It's 15 weeks and counting," said Manning, who hoped to have made the attempt by June, but was delayed because of very wet winters in northern Nevada and Utah. The streamliner approached speeds of 250 mph during testing last November. Don Vesco currently holds the record at 318 mph. The Durango Touring Rally is not AMA-sanctioned, according to the AMA. "Entry forms ask participants to list their AMA numbers and to sign a release that makes reference to the American Motorcyclist Associalion. While the event has not been explicitly advertised as AMA-sanctioned, Association oHicials believe that the references to AMA on entry ~orm are misleading and improperly Imply that tbe Association i involved," said the AMA in a press release. The National Advisory Council on Vocatiollal Education has selected American Honda Motor Company, Inc., as the recipient of its 1984 Nati~nal Award for Outstanding AchIevement by an Organization. Honda was recognized and commended by the Council "for contributions and support in behalf of vocational education that have resulted in program improvement and enhanced student opportunities."
