The Bureau of Land Management
announced some fire season restrictions on land it administers in
southern California. Among popular ORV use areas, McCain Valley
carries a Stage II designation,
which means no open fires or barbeques will be allowed, and a permit will be required for gas stoves.
Much of the high desert around
Barstow is covered by a Stage I
designation, which means permits
are required for open fires, but not
for gas stoves. Permits are availablefrom BLM offices, BLM rangers
or area fire stations. For more specific info, contact the BLM at 714/
351-6394.
