The Bureau of Land Management announced some fire season restrictions on land it administers in southern California. Among popular ORV use areas, McCain Valley carries a Stage II designation, which means no open fires or barbeques will be allowed, and a permit will be required for gas stoves. Much of the high desert around Barstow is covered by a Stage I designation, which means permits are required for open fires, but not for gas stoves.
